“No. Thanks. I’m busy. I’m going to work through lunch.”
“You know what they say about working too hard,” Charles said and
grinned a sloppy, slightly creepy kind of grin at her.
He really wasn’t an unattractive guy. At least, other women might find
him attractive. Despite being in his forties, his hair was cut short in an
expensive trim. He still had the chiseled jawline and pearly white grin that
probably made him a playboy back in his twenties. Probably in his thirties
as well. He was fit enough and filled out his blue dress shirt and black pants
in a way that women probably used to salivate over. Christina felt like just
looking at him was comparable to swallowing down nasty medication into
an already heaving stomach. She couldn’t figure out what it was— besides
the blatant stares at her chest and bottom if she was standing up. Charles
just creeped her out.
It was on the tip of her tongue to tell him that he was definitely wasting
his time on her, but she figured that would probably make things worse for
herself. There were a lot of guys that found it even hotter that she was a
lesbian. Like it was some kind of challenge for them. Or worse, some kind
of erotic fantasy come to life. She shuddered again and dropped her gaze to
the file.
“I really do have to get to work. Sorry. Maybe next time?” She knew
there was no way in frigidly frozen fucking hell there would ever be a next
time.
“Yeah,” Charles said, disappointment heavy in the word. He knew when
he was beaten and thankfully, he wasn’t about to rise to whatever challenge
she wasn’t putting out there. “Tomorrow maybe?”
“I’ll probably be working through lunch tomorrow too.”
“Darn. You’re a busy girl.”
Christina tore her eyes away from the file and gave Charles a frosty
glare. She’d perfected her blue-eyed stare over the years, and since her eyes
