“I know, Tessa,” he whispered. “I know.”

“This is wrong,” the female with fire was saying to the other male. “This will alter everything.”

“We cannot interfere,” the male replied, reaching for her when she took a step towards Tessa. “It will upset the?—”

“Fuck the balance,” the female seethed, shoving his hands away.

Axel was refusing to look at Theon, but that was regret shining in his eyes when they connected with Tessa’s.

“I’m sorry, baby doll,” he murmured before turning away from her.

“Theon, we should wait,” Luka said, his glowing eyes never leaving her face.

“She can get here,” the female was saying, panic in her voice. “She can stop this.”

“Not even she will be fast enough,” Theon answered.

“She is a World Walker and a?—”

“And even she has been ordered not to interfere with this,” Theon cut in, dropping to Tessa’s side.

“She will not care.”

“She will be too late,” Theon said again, his fingers sliding along Tessa’s jaw. “You will forever be mine, Tessa. Whether in this life or in the After.”

“Please don’t send me to the dark alone,” she whispered. She’d stopped fighting now, but her body was trembling.

The male and female were arguing with Tristyn, but Tessa couldn’t hear them. Not as she got lost in dark emerald eyes and black hair. In a small dimple, and lips she’d kissed more times than she could count.

“I’m sorry I failed you, little storm,” Theon said, sorrow flashing in his eyes.

“I’m sorry I loved you too late. But I’m yours. Every piece of me.”

Theon didn’t say another word.

Only lifted the dagger above her chest and sank it into her heart.

She couldn’t breathe. There wasn’t enough air. Her lungs were on fire as she gasped, but her chest wouldn’t expand around the searing pain.She could feel the blade, smell the blood that was spilling from her body.

Sapphire eyes were suddenly in her vision, chin-length brown hair hanging in his face.

“Calm down. You just got the air knocked out of you,” Luka said.

He was crouched beside her, his forearms on his knees and his hands hanging loosely before him.

She sucked in a shuddering breath, the ache in her chest sharp.

“What the fuck was that, Luka?” Tessa gasped out, still not able to take a full breath.

“That was you not focusing,” he retorted, his eyes narrowing when she sucked in another gasp. “You’re not dying. Take a full breath.”

“Easy for you to say,” she grumbled, pushing onto her elbows and forcing her lungs to fully expand.

“Better,” he said, pushing back to his feet, his arms folded across his chest.

“You’re a bigger ass today than normal,” she replied, finally feeling her racing heart slowing. The ache in her chest lingered though, and she absentmindedly rubbed at it. The dream had been different from the vision the priestess had forced on her. That had never happened before.

“Are you ready to talk about last night?” Luka asked, pulling her from her thoughts.
