He didn’t know what to say. Clearly, neither did Luka, because he was staring at the female as if she were half-mad.

The female’s gaze slid to the other male. “Do they not speak?”

He sighed. “They speak, Love.”

“A different language?”

“For fuck’s sake, no,” Luka cut in.

“Thank fuck,” she said. Gesturing to the Augury members who were all still silent on the edges of the arena, she added, “Just to be clear, we do not like them, yes?”

“Considering they are attempting to kill my Source, no, we do not…like them,” Theon replied, beyond perplexed at this point.

Her nose wrinkled. “She’syourSource?”

Why did they keep questioning this?

When Theon just stared at her, she shrugged. Then she flipped her sword in her hand before pointing it at Theon. “You go bring your…Source back from the thrall of her magic,” she ordered. The sword slid in Luka’s direction. “Do you know how to fight?”

“Do I what?” he demanded, traces of smoke appearing on his exhale.

She smirked. “That’s what I thought. You do your war god thing.” The sword slid to the other male, and her smirk turned wicked. “You, come and play with me.”

Then she was running at the Augury members, her shadow panthers at her sides. At her advance, the cloaked members all produced their own weapons.

Swords and bows, daggers and…spears?

What in the actual fuck was happening here?

“Theon, get to Tessa,” Luka ordered, his wings appearing before he was in the air, flying up to meet the members on the upper decks.

“You cannot possibly take on all of them…” Theon said, but then he was trailing off as the female plunged her flaming sword into the gut of an Augury member, her panthers ripping apart two more. She let go of her sword as the figure sank to the ground, pulling a dagger from her thigh and throwing it. It hit her target, but she had already retrieved her sword and engaged her next victim.

“Do you have weapons?” the male asked.

“Of course I have weapons,” Theon retorted, pulling two short swords from his darkness.

The male nodded in approval. “Go to her,” he said before he was striding forward, his sword raised as he entered the fray.

Theon turned, finding the two wolves sticking close to Tessa. Her violet stare was fixed on him, and when he met her gaze, her eyes narrowed. Lifting her hands, light crackled, golden mist swirling around her. She was lost to her power, and there was chaos all around them. He’d brought Tessa here to help her, protect her, and he’d once again taken her right into peril.

Again.

Luka was on the upper decks, taking on at least a dozen on his own. The two strangers were taking on even more around them. She was nothing but a blur of white flames, darkness, and blades, while the male took care of the ones she left behind.

He may not have liked that the silver-haired female had given him a task, but she wasn’t wrong either. Tessa needed to be brought back.

“Tessalyn,” he started, preparing to entrance her, but her lips tilted up, and she slowly shook her head.

He should have known. The moment she’d revealed she could defy the Source bond commands, he should have known.He should have known the moment Cienna had told him she wasn’t Fae or Legacy.

Her eyes dipped to the short swords he still held before flicking back up to him in question.

“They’re just in case,” he explained, sending one away.

“Who are they?” Tessa asked, her voice still holding that eerie ring.
