Story: Kenna's Dragon
A growl rolls low in his throat and he tugs me down against his chest. Before he can do anything about that bit of sass, though, his phone rings where he’s left it lying on the dresser.
Ewan’s body stiffens, and a moment later he’s gently shifting me off him.
“I should take this.”
Nodding mutely, I watch him pad naked across the room and pick it up before stepping out into the hallway and closing the door behind him. Whatever he’s talking about, I guess it’s not for my ears.
Bureau business, probably, and the small intrusion sends a shot of unease through me.
I lay back on the mattress and let out a long sigh. My body is sated, exhausted, tingly from the remaining lube on my skin and in my pussy, but my mind is… unsettled.
Unable to shake the feeling, I roll off the bed—groaning a little at the delicious soreness in my muscles—and cross to stand in front of the floor-to-ceiling windows at the side of Ewan’s room. I’m still completely naked, but this side of the building looks out on an unobstructed view. Any prying eyes are at least ten stories below, I’m pretty sure the windows are tinted anyways, and it feels a little surreal to be up this high and so far away from it all.
I stand there in silence, watching the city so far below, and try not to feel uneasy about whatever call Ewan just had to take. Or about those couple of weird moments while we were fucking.
How do I even tell him not to do that?
Uh, sorry, Ewan, but would it be possible to avoid looking at me like that while you’ve got your cock in me? Like youlikeme. Like this is more than a good fuck?
God.
Maybe it’s just a dragon thing. Maybe he doesn’t even know he’s doing it. He’s… intense, when he’s shifted. All of those instincts, I guess, the beast in him coming out to play. It probably doesn’t have anything at all to do with me.
I’m still thinking about it when I feel the warmth of him at my back. I didn’t even hear him come into the room.
Ewan wraps his arms around me from behind, resting his chin on my shoulder. “Come away with me, ember?”
The words, spoken against the shell of my ear, send a shiver all the way through me.
“What? Where?”
“Let me surprise you. Are you busy this weekend?”
I turn to face him, arching a brow. “A whole weekend away? Why? Where is this coming from?”
It’s his wings this time, curling forward and brushing against my arms, that make me shiver again.
“I want to see you in the sunshine,” he says, low and quiet. “Somewhere we don’t have to be careful or look over our shoulders.”
There it is again, that damned tenderness, mixed with a warning I’m not going to ignore.
“Does this have anything to do with the phone call you just took?”
Ewan stiffens. “Not… entirely.”
“What does that mean?”
He lets out a short, tense breath. “Just a final confirmation of something happening next week.”
“Something you can’t tell me about?” I guess.
He doesn’t answer, but I suppose that’s answer enough.
“Is it something I should be worried about? You know, with everything that’s been in the media?”
His rumble of discontent vibrates through me as he pulls me closer. “No. It’s nothing you need to be worried about.”
I make a small noise of acknowledgment in the back of my throat, but I don’t answer his question about going somewhere with him, not yet. Not when he hasn’t really given me a reason to.
