CHAPTER EIGHT
(Matthew)
I waited in the darkened storage room, barely hidden by two industrial wire racks. It was terrible cover, but that didn’t matter. I doubted anyone would be wrappingsilverware or replacing tablecloths in the middle ofbreakfast.
And what would happen if I got caughtin there, anyway? Would they fire me?
The door handle pusheddown, and I caught a glimpse of Charlotte as she slipped inside.“Matt?”
“Back here,” I whispered, and she wound through the shelves to reach me.
She covered her sudden giggles withboth hands. “I can’t believe you brought a fucking bearhere.”
“That’s what I do. I makethe impossible happen,” I said with a flourish of myhand.
She shook her head. “You’re such anasshole.”
“I know I am. But I alsowant your brother to have the best wedding possible. He deservesit.” Sure, it had been fun to see Charlotte’s face when sherealized that if I could get a bear to a wedding, I could getsomeone to do a three-way on the roof, but the real point of thegesture was to make the bride and her family happy. “Lauren’sfamily doesn’t think Scott fits in at all. He’s been strugglingwith that for a long time. I was hoping that this wedding surprisewould make them lay off a little bit.”
Two little lines appeared between herbrows. “Oh.”
Something about her confusion made meuncomfortable. “What?”
“Well, I didn’t know thatwas a problem,” she said, like it was an admission of guilt. “Myfamily kind of assumed it was a good thing he didn’t fit in withthem. And I’m a little…”
“Embarrassed by how snobbythat was?” I didn’t want to go on the attack, but it was somethingI’d thought for a while. “Lauren’s family doesn’t have a lot offlashy stuff. They’re not glamorous or polished and they don’t fitin with that upper-middle-class lifestyle your family enjoys, butthat doesn’t mean Scott shouldn’t want their approval. He’smarrying their daughter.”
“That’s fair.” She lookeddown. “I know we’re snobs. I guess I’m surprised that we’resnobbier than the guy who’s the literal billionaire.”
“And I come from oldmoney,” I pointed out. “So, if anything, I should be the snobbyone.”
“Well, I think the bearthing is great. Dangerous, but great. And I appreciate you lookingout for my brother. I should have been doing that myself.” Thesadness that crept into her voice wasn’t my fault, I knew, but Ifelt responsible for dredging it up.
“No, don’t be hard onyourself.” Scott had always been open with his friends about theweird dynamic in their family that had resulted in his sister’sbirth. I knew he felt responsible for protecting her. I never knewshe felt the same way toward him. “I’m sorry about what those womenwere saying at the table.”
“It’s fine.” Charlotte wavedit away with a blatantly automatic gesture. “People know the story. It’s not a big deal.”
“It looked like it was a bigdeal.” I reached down and cupped her chin, tilting her face up. Idon’t know why I did it; it felt natural in the moment. “You can behonest with me. I’m a stranger. Are you okay?”
“I am. I’m fine.” She tookmy hand in hers and lowered it. “I’m used to it. Thank you, though. For checking on me.”
I gazed down at herupturned face for far too long. The moment turned from tender toawkward. I faked a cough and looked away. “Well, I’m sorry, Ihadn’t planned for this to be a maudlin encounter. I wanted you tocome here so I could finger you up against the wall and make youcome before you had to go back out there and make small talk whiletrying not to think about what you just did.”
She laughedloudly.
I shushed her. “You’regoing to get us caught. Take your panties down and get up againstthat wall.”
She hurried to comply, leaving the scrap of pink lace around one ankle, never bothering toslip her high-heeled sandals off. I dropped to my knees in front ofher and grabbed that ankle, pulling her foot up to stand on mythigh. She wobbled on her other foot and gripped the shelving unitbeside us for balance.
“Pull your skirt up,” Itold her, and she held her sundress up with one hand, exposing thegorgeous cunt I’d been thinking about nonstop since the nightbefore. The delicate pink petals of her inner labia peeked out, andwhen I parted them, her clitoris twitched inanticipation.
I pressed my thumb to it, and shewhimpered.
“You have to be quiet,” Ireminded her. “Or we’ll get caught.”
“I can be quiet,” shebreathed. “I promise.”
I pressed two fingers against her cunt;she was already hot and wet and inviting. “Is this forme?”
