Kiera handed over, and left them to load up. Alone.

Romi sighed. Apparently, chivalry really was dead.

Whatever. They were capable. She could pretend her feet weren’t on fire

and probably pooling skin and blood in boots she was going to have to pay

for after this because there was no way that anyone would ever want to

wear them after so much carnage had taken place.

It turned out that loading up was easier than she thought. They tackled

the pile together and put what would fit into boxes and used the dolly to

help load them. The larger items were secured in by the boxes. While Kiera

finished the last of the pile, she made a path to get the carousel fish thing

It was crazy heavy and it took both of them, grunting and shoving,

pulling and tugging, to get it out of the barn and into the trailer. After, Kiera

shut the door and gave a satisfied huff.

“Thank god that’s in there. Probably the heaviest one yet. I can’t believe

he gave that away. One hundred dollars was a steal.”

“That’s what you paid for it? I lost track of it all.”

“Yeah.”

“How much do you think it would sell for?”

Kiera’s smooth brow creased as she considered that. “Quite a bit, but I

might keep it. It would look nice in the store. And there’s nothing like

having something not for sale that really gets the offers flowing.” She must

have been in a good mood, because she actually winked at Romi.

Romi laughed softly. She went to walk around the other side of the trailer

to get into the truck, but the first step she took was like hot embers had been

sewn into her feet. Lightning pain shot up her leg, splintering through her

muscles. She gasped and actually glanced around for an electric fence or

something that she might have stepped on before she tuned in to the fact

that her feet were completely blistered and shredded and she really couldn’t
