Story: Ex's Accidental Baby
Grayson built his business from the ground up, too, but he’d had his trust fund to fall back on, and if I were ever to start something, so would I.
“I’m so proud of you.”
Logan looks at me for a long moment, throat working. “Thank you. Haven’t had anyone tell me that in a long time.”
We sit out there for a long time, until my stomach starts to rumble.
I don’t want to leave. I don’t want this weekend to be over.
Ever.
ChapterTwenty-Four
LOGAN
I haven’t beenable to spend this much time alone with Meredith in her parents’ house... well, ever. It’s really reminding me of the good old days, and I wonder if it’s the same for her.
We return to the house, and I order pizza–a veggie, her favorite. She loves meat but not on pizza, strangely enough.
When the intercom buzzes, she jumps slightly.
“Just the food.” I kiss her forehead, and she relaxes.
“Did you get?—”
“Cheese sticks? Of course, I did. With extra garlic butter.”
She grins. “You remembered?”
“Who could forget? My breath smelled like garlic for days back then.”
Meredith snorts out a laugh. “It’s the risk you take, loving me.”
I look at her for a moment, wanting to tell her that I’d risk anything, follow her into hell if she asked. Instead, I just go and pay for the pizza.
We watch old sitcoms on television as we eat, talking and laughing, and it's probably the best night I’ve spent in a really long time.
She digs into the cheese sticks and garlic, but I tap her ankle after a few of them.
“Be careful, princess. The baby might not like all the garlic.”
Meredith frowns. “You’re right. I guess I have to be eating for two now.”
“That means your mother can’t judge you for eating too much,” I say without thinking about it.
Meredith pales and goes silent, and I sigh.
“I’m sorry, Meredith. I shouldn’t have?—”
She cuts me off with a wave of her hand. “No, you're right. I have to tell her. And my father. And Grayson.”
The blood drains from my face. “Are you going to tell him... everything?”
“You mean that we got together when we were young? Yeah, I figure I should. There’s no reason to keep secrets now.”
Keeping my head on my shoulders might be a reason.
But I don’t say it because I don’t want to stress her out. She’s already stressed enough.
