“Yes, yes it is. If I didn’t have you, I wouldn’t have had to marry your father. I could have been a famous dancer,” she pouts.

“Still not hearing the part that’s my fault.”

“You ruined it all,” she shouts.

I sigh, “Who is your boss? What does he have to do with this?”

“Masters is a good man,” she glares.

“Masters? That’s his real name?” I snort.

“Yes,” she hisses. “He gave me this house.”

“What did you have to do for him?” I ask, looking at all the luxury.

“He likes me,” she defends. “He wants me to be happy.”

“So, what’s wrong then? He gave you the house, and I’m guessing, money, so why are you so angry?”

“I want more,” she grunts greedily. “He agrees with me concerning shifters.”

“How many have you killed?”

Pride washes over her features, “Twenty.”

“Fuck, are you insane? Did Masters help?” I can’t seem to connect the dots between the woman in front of me and the one that drove me to school—not often, but still.

“That was just my kills. He has many more,” she says smugly.

“Where is he?” I ask.

“He's on a mission tonight.”

“You mean he is murdering someone tonight,” I growl.

“It’s the work of the blessed.” She smooths out her dress.

“You're kidding, right?”

“This isn’t something I joke about.”

“I can’t let you kill anyone else.” I relax my hands at my sides.

“I’ve thought about this, and I could make you a deal.” She leans forward.

“This is the second time I’ve been offered a deal today.”

“What if I let you live—” she starts.

“Let me?” I interrupt.

She scowls and goes on, “If I let you live, you join me. We could do so many amazing things together. With Masters’ money and connections, my brains, and your power, we would be unstoppable,” she says excitedly.

“No.”

“Just think about it. You could be the most powerful vampire in the world.” She waves her hand in the air.
