I followed Amanda back up to the second-floor guest room serving as her temporary office, staying two steps behind her until the door closed behind us.
As soon as it clicked shut, I wrapped an arm around her waist, spinning her to face me and pulling her tight against my body.
Her wide eyes locked onto mine for half a second before my lips found hers, and sparks exploded in a sharp burst between us.
"You were so strong just now," I muttered between kisses, both of us gasping for air as our lips parted. "So in control. It’s so fucking hot."
I’d thought so every time I watched her take charge, every time she owned the moment with her unshakable authority and iron will, and that day, the feeling was even stronger.
Watching her command that room, standing firm even as betrayal stared her in the face, did something to me.
It made me want to kneel at her feet and fight to the death for her in the same breath.
Knowing I might not have much time left, I finally let myself show it.
To my relief, she didn’t resist me. In fact, she clung to me just as desperately, kissing me back with just as much hunger, her body pressing into mine as if she needed me to anchor her. The bond between us urged us forward, raw and relentless.
“I liked having you there,” she confessed breathlessly, her fingers twisting in my shirt. “You gave me strength.”
That might have been the single best thing I’d ever heard in my life.
A growl rumbled in my chest as I lifted her from the ground, my hands sliding beneath the backs of her thighs. In three steps, I had her against the edge of her makeshift desk, my fingers already at the zipper of her pants.
“Someone might… need us,” she tried to protest even as her hips lifted off the desk to help me pull the fabric down.
“They can wait. This can’t.”
When I had her bare enough to spread her legs, I dropped to my knees, inhaling her sweet scent like I needed it to live. How I’d gone without it for so many years, I’d never understand.
Any further protests she might have made died when my tongue connected with her clit, tracing a circle around it in a slow, deliberate pattern. “Goddess!” she gasped, her head falling back as she surrendered herself fully to the pleasure in store.
The contrast between the powerful Alpha she’d just been and the woman unravelling for me now sent a rush of heat through my veins.

If I really was going to die in a couple of days, any time not spent with my face between her legs seemed like an utter waste.
However, as much as I wanted to savour her, she didn’t need slow and teasing right now.
She needed release, so I worked her with purpose, drinking her in with every greedy swallow, every roll of my tongue drawing her closer to the edge.
Her knuckles whitened as her fists clenched, the peak of her pleasure growing closer and closer.
“Let go, Alpha,” I rumbled against her skin. “You’ve earned it.”
Her thighs clenched around my head as she shattered, her cries muffled by her own fist as she bit down on it.

It would have to sustain me until the next time we could steal another moment together, whenever that might be.
When she finally slumped against the desk, breathless and glowing, I pressed one last kiss against her trembling inner thigh before standing.
"Damn," she murmured, her flushed face tilting up to meet my gaze. "You really shouldn’t be able to do that so fast."
“You needed it fast. When it’s time to go slow, trust me, I can take all fucking night.”
Her thighs clenched again as I pulled back with a reluctant smile.
“I should go find Savannah and Kalo. The Crimsontooth men will be ready to come through the border soon.”
“You don’t want me to take care of that first?” she asked, glancing down at the noticeable bulge in the front of my pants.
I exhaled a short laugh. “I’m used to self-denial. But if you’re offering to take care of it later, it’ll give me something to look forward to for the rest of the day.”
We hadn’t discussed where either of us would be sleeping that night. Depending on what still needed to be done, I might not be sleeping at all again. But when Amanda nodded, something warm flickered in my chest.
"I’ll make sure I get a chance to return the favour," she promised, a teasing glint in her eye. "As soon as things are settled for the night."
"In that case, the sooner I get going, the sooner I can come back."
I leaned down, brushing my lips over hers in a kiss far softer than the first. Her taste still lingered on my tongue, mingling with the sweetness of her kiss in a perfect, intoxicating blend.
"Do you want me to clean you up before I go?" I murmured, the words full of heat even as I pulled back.
Her smile that time was different, new and tender. "I think I can handle it. Be careful out there, all of you. If anything seems off, do not open the border."
I didn’t miss the flicker of frustration in her eyes. She hated staying back, hated being away from the action, but I was glad she didn’t push to come with us. With her in danger, I’d be completely unable to function.
"We’ll be careful, I promise." I hesitated, then added, "I’ll check in with you as soon as we’re back."
I stepped back, giving her the bow I owed to my Alpha, as if I hadn’t just had my face buried between her legs, and turned for the door.
"Troy."
My name, spoken softly, stopped me in my tracks.
I turned back, meeting her gaze over my shoulder. "Yes?"
"We’ll talk tonight too. As soon as we get a chance."
My pulse stuttered, my wolf stirring restlessly in my head. From her tone, I knew she meant talking about the future, about what came next for us , assuming we both survived the next few days.
And I had no idea whether I should be looking forward to that conversation or dreading it.
It seemed I would have to wait a little longer to find out.
