A smile curls at my lips. “You waiting for me, baby?”

Her eyes open and she stares at me as realisation hits her.

“What are you going to do about it if I was?”

I can’t help but shake my head and laugh. Even now, she can’t admit it. Can’t accept whatever this thing is between us.

“Prove to you just how good a fucking decision that was.” My fingers find their home around her throat once more and she tilts her chin up, defiance covering every inch of her face. “I told you, baby. Releasing her, my hands go for the button on her skirt, but something else catches my attention before I get it open.

“Seb?” she whispers as I drop to my knees before her, my hands holding her waist as my eyes land on her wound.

My heart thunders in my chest, my need for vengeance on the man who hurt her like this, who left his mark on her body, burns through me like wildfire.

She sucks in a shaky breath, hearing the resolve in my voice as I gently brush the pad of my thumb just beneath the healing skin.

“Does it still hurt?” I ask, suddenly feeling like an asshole for manhandling her and not thinking about this in my need to get inside her.

Her body moves as I assume she shakes her head, but I don’t lift my eyes from her belly to confirm my suspicions.

“No, not really. I had a check-up here the other day. Everything is healing nicely.”

Leaning forward, I press my lips to the very top of the incision, the image of her knife cutting through her skin the only thing in my mind, making my grip on her waist tighten.

“I’m sorry, baby. I’m so fucking sorry.”
