“You don’t have to do this. It-it’s not that serious, Mekole.” Her cries annoyed the hell out of me.

I was in the shed that was near the back of my parents’ property.

I came back here when I wanted to work on and test electrical components and items. My daddy called it my workshop.

Tonight, I wanted to test how many electrical volts the human body could intermittently take.

Lifting two bodies that were incapacitated was a hard thing to do.

Luckily, I had a system in my shed to help me hang heavy things.

Some of the components that I worked with needed to be high so that I could have a better vantage point to work on it.

“Baby, this shit is crazy. Aaah!” James yelled out when I hit the button to send electricity through the patches on his body that were attached to electrical probes.

I sat back in my recliner and crossed my legs.

“James, you know what I think is absolutely crazy? Finding out that my boyfriend and my best friend have been fucking for almost two fucking years. Oh, and my beautiful goddaughter is actually your daughter.” I laughed venomously.

“I have to give it to you two though. The whole we hate each other act was award winning. Taco Shell, please shut the fuck up.”

Faheeta’s crying annoyed me. I had her and James hanging from the ceiling by their wrists.

See, those pictures that Baby Back Whale sent me were pictures of James and Faheeta together.

I wasn’t sure where they were, but them kissing with his hand gripping her ass let me know it was more than a hate thing.

“Mekole, I’m sorry. It just happened,” my best friend cried out.

My head tilted at her words. “Fucking your best friend’s man doesn’t just happen. It happened so much that your ass got pregnant. What, y’all planned to be a happy family at some point with a betrayal like this?”

I threw my hands up. “Fuck! Now I have to apologize to your fake baby daddy. He swore Pepper wasn’t his. I loved and trusted you, so I believed your ho ass.”

The saying that hell hath no fury like a woman scorned was true. “We were going to tell you, baby. I just didn’t know how,” James said.

I giggled before I cut my eyes over to Taco Shell.

“Bitch, this the nigga you ruined our relationship and are about to lose your life over? He’s supposed to be all in love with you, but he’s in here calling me baby.

” I hit both of their asses with some volts.

They both hollered in pain from the low ass voltage that I gave them.

“James, that hit was because your ass can’t even be faithful in your mind.

Taco Shell, that’s for being stupid and losing an amazing friend like me. ”

“Please, I have a baby. Think of your goddaughter, Mekole.” I looked at my ex-best friend like she’d lost her damn mind. There was no way that she just said that. “If you do this, Pepper will be an orphan.”

I took a sip of my horchata oat milk shaken espresso.

“Now you’re trying to manipulate me with my love for my goddaughter.

That’s really low. I actually know something lower.

The fact that you named me Pepper’s godmother, let me fall in love with her, and you knew she was my man’s daughter.

James, how the hell could you sit there and act like that little girl wasn’t yours? That shit is diabolical.”

“Look, Mekole, I’m sorry the shit happened like this, but shit happens. We should have never let it happen, but it did. Now we have a daughter. Please, we all can just move on with our lives,” James pleaded.

“Nah, it ain’t gonna be none of that. This betrayal runs too deep for that. See, James, our relationship was expendable. I’ve only known your ass what, four years? That’s nothing compared to all of the damn years that me and you have been friends, Taco Shell.”

Before I could say anything else, I heard the beep of the lock on the door. I knew it was my dad based on the beep. “What the fuck! Mekole, what you got going on here?” When he stepped beside my recliner and looked down at me, his face was etched with concern.

“Pop Derrick, please! Please help us. She’s said she’s going to kill us,” Faheeta cried.

My face tightened. “Damn, you a snitch and a damn ho. I can tell my own daddy that I’m going to kill y’all.” I rolled my eyes, then tilted my head back to look at my daddy. “Daddy, I’m going to kill them. James and Taco Shell have been fucking for years, and Pepper is his baby.”

My daddy just looked at me. “Wow! James, I saw that for you, but Faheeta, I’m so disappointed in you. You were like a second daughter.”

“I’m sorry! God, I’m sorry! Please tell her to let us down, Pop—aah!” Faheeta yelled out in pain.

“Girl, if you don’t stop calling him Pop like you deserve to. I’m grown as fuck. My daddy can’t tell me what to do,” I said with disdain. My head slanted to the side to look up at my daddy. “Respectfully, of course.”

My daddy snickered. “My brother tried to tell me that you had that crazy shit in you like us, but I said not my baby.” His attention went toward the two bitches that hung from the ceiling. “Faheeta and James, calm down. Let me . . . wait. James, where were you during my grandboy’s funeral?”

Wait! I never thought to ask that. “Faheeta had Pepper early that morning, but I was there. I mean, I left before she had the baby, but . . .”

My father told him to answer him. James took a deep breath. “I was with Faheeta and my daughter. My son was dead. I wanted to be with my child that was alive.”

It felt like my heart stopped beating. My ears started to pop. “Daddy, what did he say?”

“Nah, you don’t need to hear him say that stupid shit again. Mekole, stay your ass in here, and do not kill them.” When I didn’t look at him, he squatted down to get eye level with me. “Mekole Ciara Henderson, I said do not kill them yet. I need to make a call.”

I crossed my arms over my chest. “Fine, I won’t. I’m going to let them rest while I take a nap. They’re supposed to be out of town together on a little baecation, so no one is missing them.”

My father walked out of my shed. I had an idea of who he planned to call.

That wouldn’t work out any better for James and Taco Shell.

Hell, their deaths might be more gruesome.

I got up to make sure I had what I needed to let the hanging bitches take a nap.

“I’m going to let you guys take a little nap until my daddy comes back. ”

“Yo, this is insane, Mekole! Are you really going to do this shit? You know you’d never get away with this shit. My mom and her mom are gonna come looking for us. What are you going to say?” James asked me with a scratchy voice.

I ignored him to stick the needle between Faheeta’s second and third toe.

It didn’t take her long to doze off. It was only then that I felt the need to answer the questions posed from the fuck boy to the right of her.

“I’m not worried about your mammie or hers.

Trust me, getting caught is the least of my worries.

If I were you, I would go ahead and get your spiritual life together so you’re permitted into those pearly gates.

I plan to send you and your baby mama to the reception line. ”

I stuck the needle between his first and second toe. In minutes, he was out like a little baby. I returned to my seat, reclined it, pulled my blanket over me, and got ready for my nap. I had not a worry in the world right now.

I wasn’t sure how long I was asleep before I was pulled out of it. My arms went up in the air for a good stretch before I opened my eyes. They closed and opened again. I pulled the recliner in the upright position. “What are you doing here? Who is this?”

“Girl, what the fuck you got going on in here?” Fiona asked with a giggle.

I could tell she tried to stifle it, but she couldn’t help it.

She’d calmed down in her maturity, but I’d heard stories about my favorite cousin.

She pointed to the woman that stood beside her.

“This is my homegirl, Galiana. She has a special set of skills that you may need since now we got to kill two people. Now, tell me what got us here.”

I was interested in what kind of skills she had.

We would get to that later. I stood to my feet so that I could do a little show-and-tell.

“This man here is James. He’s my most recent ex and my son Derrick James’s father.

” After my hand extended toward the other that hung, I said, “This is my ex-best friend, Faheeta. You can call her Taco Shell though.”

Fiona’s and Galiana’s heads dropped. “What the entire fuck?” Galiana mumbled. When her head lifted, she asked, “What did Faheeta do?”

“Well, she’s been sleeping with James for years, and her new daughter is his child.

Oh, her daughter was born on the day of D.J.

’s funeral. That’s why he wasn’t there.” I paused for a second.

“I want to make sure I get the words right. He didn’t come to the funeral because he wanted to be with the baby that was alive. ”

Fiona’s and Galiana’s heads snapped in James’s direction. He and his whore were still asleep. “Yeah, no. That’s good enough for me,” Fiona said before she walked to the door.

Next thing I knew, my dad, Uncle Dan, Croy, and another man that I didn’t know came in the door. The man that I didn’t know stood there for a second before he chortled. “I see that crazy shit runs in the damn family. This shit crazy. How the fuck you get their asses in here and up there?”

I knew his question derived from wanting to know if I had help. “I have my way that don’t involve others. I know better than having too many hands in the pot. I’m sorry, who are you?”

Galiana stepped forward. “Sorry, this is my husband, Jacob. He’s going to help.”

My face contorted. “I don’t need help. I got this under control.”
