“Yes, but eventually, well, I think we should move. Out of the state if possible.”
“But this is your home,” Kris said. He glanced about. “Your gardens you’ve worked so hard grow are here. And Ian. I think it’s a terrible idea.”
“To keep you safe?”
Kris’s eyes filled. “I wouldn’t want you to have to move because of me.”
Thorne pulled him close. “I would do anything for you.” He kissed the side of his head. “Anything.”
Kris’s arms came around him and hugged him tight.
Thorne’s cock thickened in his trousers. He ran his hands up the back of Kris’s sweater.
Kris said, “I have this terrible urge to just turn off all the lights and climb into bed with you and stay there all day.”
“All day?”
“Yes. Making love all day.”
Shutting out the world. Why did that sound so good?
“Ah! You!” With a sharp laugh, Thorne pushed Kris to the center of the bed, covering him with his body. He kissed him, then leaned back and caught the hem of his sweater, lifting it.
Kris’s arms rose in compliance.
Soon they were both naked, scattering pillows and covers, bodies meeting in a private dance.
Chapter Twenty-Four
Kris
I woke with a start. I must have been dreaming, but I couldn’t remember it.
Thorne lay beside me on his side, his face pushed half-way into the pillow, his dark hair falling against his exposed cheek.
The late afternoon sun through the half-drawn shade bathed the guest room in bronze shadows. We never slept here anymore. We’d gotten carried away in here and fallen asleep.
I stretched my arms up and was just about to slide my legs over the side of the bed when I heard it.
Banging. Downstairs.
My body jerked in surprise.
“Thorne!”
Thorne gave a little groan beside me and his weight shifted as he slowly woke.
“Thorne!” I punched him on the shoulder. “Someone’s at your door!”
Thorne sat up wide awake now, pushing his hair from his eyes. He tossed the covers back hard and sprang up, already shuffling into his jeans before I could even blink.
“This isn’t good. After that guy Scard came here this morning, this can’t be--”
“Hush,” he interrupted. He put his hand gently on my mouth and whispered, “Get dressed but stay here. Do not come out of this room!”
My blood rushed so fast I could hear it like a roar in my ears. I jumped from the bed and put on my clothes. Before I could say another word, Thorne had bolted from the room, shutting the door behind him.
I’d gotten dressed in record time, and now ran my hands through the tangles of my hair. It was loose and I gathered it up and pulled it over my right shoulder. Not knowing what else to do, I sat on the edge of the bed and waited.
