Page 38 of Trust No Alpha
“But what if--” I started to say.
“Trust me when I say that IP cannot be tracked back here.”
Trust him.Of course I didn’t. Even if his house was immaculate and his pine-filled backyard swelled with the beautiful music of otherworldly silences. Even if he was careful and controlled and smart and gorgeous. No. I didn’t trust him.
Dangerous Alpha.
But those slightly rough fingertips against my palm… An itch began inside me I couldn’t scratch.
I hadn’t even been here a full day and yet a big part of me wanted to trust him. Wanted to be near him at all times. As if it wasn’t Thorne that was unsafe, but the whole wide world around us.
I was still in shock, I decided. Not thinking right.
Yet during the afternoon, I followed him from room to room, and when I realized what I was doing, I went to my own room to get away. To calm myself.
It was quiet and pretty in there, the walls painted pale lavender, the bed heaped with worn pillows. They were pale and shabby but very soft, like they had belonged to someone a long, long time ago. I had the thought they might have been his Omega mate’s pillows, and Thorne had not had the strength to toss them.
The curtains were white, but the valances were a lacy dark green, which actually looked pretty against the pale purple walls.
I hopped on the bed and leaned back. I needed to stay clear-headed. I needed to learn more about his home and his situation before I could allow myself to relax and accept that I could stay here for a while and plan my future path.
I tried to take a nap but couldn’t sleep.
When I got up, Thorne had finished fixing my tablet for me so I could spy on my brothers’ messages to each other.
I couldn’t have been more thankful.
I immediately found that Mathias had messaged Trigg earlier in the day.
At hospital. Father is in the Burn. They’ve given him medication to relax him.
This afternoon he’ll be released and I’ll take him to his favorite: Zilly’s Farm.
Trigg had replied.
Father just had his Burn a month ago. What’s going on? Do they know?
Mathias:
Triggered by stress. By Kris.
Trigg:
By Kris? How? He’s not even a true Omega.
Mathias:
You haven’t been around him since Father locked him away and he turned eighteen. It’s weird. So weird. He stinks.
Trigg:
Like what?
Mathias:
Like burnt honey or something. But it’s also sweet. Maybe you will understand after your first Burn, but he almost smelled like a fucking bitch Omega ready and waiting to take it up the ass.
Trigg:
