Max laughed. “I guess this was why Grace was acting like she was the cat that caught the canary.”

“They did all this for us?” I asked.

He smiled. “Looks like.”

“Why?”

Max set Miles’ carrier on the counter, then pulled me into his arms. “Because they’re our friends, and they love us.”

I sniffled, overwhelmed by the love and support around me.

There was an echoing sound, then another cry as Miles woke up.

I let out a wet laugh, then rounded Max to retrieve our son from the carrier.

I smiled as I looked down at his scrunched face. “You got Papa’s emotions, didn’t you?”

“And your good looks too,” Max added.

“I think he looks more like you.”

“Maybe the hair, but otherwise I think he takes after Papa. And that means he’s going to have everybody falling all over him when he’s older—male, female, alpha and omega. It won’t matter, he’ll have his pick.”

“Only if he also got your kind heart.”

Max set his hands on my shoulders, turning me so that he could kiss my forehead. “That’s up to us, omega-mine, and I think he’ll be fine.”

I looked up at my alpha and smiled. A year ago he was merely the man I saw across the way from time to time, then he’d stepped in to protect me.

Now I couldn’t imagine life without him, or our son.

“I love you,” I said.

Max smiled, tilted my chin up and kissed me gently. “I love you too.” Then he leaned in and pressed a kiss to Miles’ forehead. “And you too Miles.”

I’d had my share of crappy alphas in my life, but I’d do it all over again because it had led me to this man and the life I’d always dreamed of.
