“ T hat’s the last box,” Tucker says as he sets it down on top of the rest of them.
I finish putting my favorite coffee cups in the cabinet then turn just in time to have him capture me in his arms and kiss me until my blood is buzzing with love and desire.
“You’re moved in, wife.”
“I am.” I kiss him again then bury my hands in his hair. Everything about this man fits perfectly with me. We’re two of a kind. A pair of souls who have found our perfect fit in one another.
“Hey now, wait until the parents are gone,” my dad jokes as he and Tommy Hunt bring in a tray of cookies.
“To be fair, we didn’t know you were here,” I reply with a smile.
My dad sets the cookies down. “A gift from your mother,” he says. “She and Ruth are planning a feast tonight. A celebration of your return from your honeymoon and what she calls the official start of your lives together.”
I turn away from Tucker, though I press my back into his chest as he wraps both arms around my waist.
“If today is the start, then what were the past two weeks?” I ask with a laugh.
“That’s what I told her,” my dad replies. “Anyway, we promised we’d bring these here, but Tommy is going to help me hang the TV in our living room, then we’ll be over for dinner.” My parents closed on a house in town just a few days ago and are selling their place out in California.
It’s their fresh start too.
I pull away from Tucker and cross the living room to hug my dad. “Thanks, Dad. I’m so glad you and Mom are here now.”
“Us too, Ali. Us too.” He steps back and looks at Tucker. “Good to see you, son. We’ll see you tonight.”
“See you tonight.” Tucker waves, and they close the door behind them as they leave. “Now, where were we?” he asks, pulling me back in.
I encircle his neck with my arms and lean into the kiss.
“Want to dance?”
“Dance?” I laugh. “There’s no music.”
Tucker begins to hum, and I throw my head back in a laugh as he twirls me around the living room while Tango watches curiously from his bed, tongue hanging out.
If my life ended right now, I could say that I’d lived it well. Not just because of the things I’ve done but because of the love I found. The love I wasn’t too afraid to embrace. Tucker is everything to me.
And I think, on some level, I always knew he would be.
“I will never get enough of this. Of you,” he whispers as he slows down, swaying me to the music in his head. “You completely consume me, Alice Hunt.”
“I feel the same way about you,” I reply, then lose myself in him as he kisses me again.
