“No. I’m not sure. What I am sure of is that he has no idea we already have the trust fund and the lawyer is getting all the paperwork ready. I’m also positive he has yet to know I went ahead and married her,” Ronan said.
The four of us were in the groom’s room of the church. In our case it would be grooms’ if this world understood just how much we operated as one unit and she was our center.
“You have the rings?” I asked.
Knox pulled out a box that had all four of the diamond bands with each of our initials on the inside. Two for each side of the engagement ring. We’d follow the tradition of the family and Ronan would be the one to go through the ceremony, but after, she’d get a ring from each of us.
“Barone hasn’t said shit to us since that dinner. Does he know you didn’t call off the wedding?” Knox asked.
Ronan licked the corner of his mouth before answering.
“I might have gone against the family. I asked Maddox for help.”
We shook our heads.
“Why weren’t we involved in that decision?” I asked.
The church was too quiet. No one had stormed in yet to scream at us.
“You know why. I had to keep it quiet, and if Barone had noticed the four of us meeting with Maddox or gotten wind of this at all, well, this might be a funeral service for four.”
I knew what he said was true. We were all tolerated because of blood, but Barone still saw his direct blood as the only blood viable to run the family. Although Ronan was acknowledged by Barone, even being illegitimate, suspicion was never far away. We knew that at any given time there could be a mole ready to rat someone out.
“Fine. Still hate that you kept it from us. But is there any plan?” I asked.
Ronan sighed.
“This is the plan. For now. Wait for Barone to make his move.”
Wait. All we did was wait half the time. We made plans and then we’d wait. Patience.
Fucking hell.
“She’s still here in the bride’s room right? Reina knows to stay with her?” Talon asked, grabbing Ronan’s phone to pull up an app.
The watch we’d given her hours ago had a tracker in it. Not that she knew that.
“We should have just told her about the tracker,” I said.
Talon handed Ronan back his phone.
“She’s still there. She knows not to take off the watch for fear of death. Or rather because I told her it meant a lot to us. It’s better she be in the dark. I didn’t exactly know Maddox was involved in today’s events, but I also hated not having eyes on her at all times. Reina does not count.”
We had a handful of men loyal to us rather than the entire Barone family, but even that didn’t mean that we could keep her safe.
“She needed to not know what’s happening no matter what. The idea that the wedding will go off without any issues? Well, if that happens, we can all fly out of here on our unicorns,” I said.
Ronan got up and started to pace.
“It’s not if it will go wrong, it’s when,” Knox said and pulled out his lighter.
CHAPTER 27
MARGAUX
“Miss Harrington?”
Reina opened the door to the bridal room.
