Page 119 of Tangled Desires
Fresh off the plane from Fiji, we barely had time to dump our bags, shower, and wrestle Joseph out of a nappy that should be classified as a biohazard. Now, we’re pulling into Xavier and Isla’s driveway, and yep—everyone’s here. Even Michael’s Ducati. It’s like a whole damn festival.
I’m not even mad. Low-key excited, actually. Family chaos? My kind of therapy.
We’re not even out of the car when Isla comes tearing out of the house, arms flailing like she’s in a rom-com. The rest of the crew follows, dogs included, because of course. Even Taco, our blue American Staffy, comes barreling toward me, a bundle of nerves and chaotic energy.
Just like his dad.
Harrison had surprised me with him one day after work, right when I was drowning in the worst of my postpartum depression. By then, he’d already cut back his hours to be home more. Taco was another lifeline in a tiny, grunting, four-legged gremlin package.
Taco launches himself at Harrison’s feet, still grunting like a gremlin. Harrison crouches to greet him, letting Taco lick his face with the kind of enthusiasm only this dog can muster. Joseph watches from my arms, squealing with delight as Isla and Xavier’s dog’s, Luna and Buddy, tear around us in wild circles.
“Midge!” Isla screams, ready to tackle-hug me. But she freezes. Her eyes laser-focus on my hand. The ring. Her jaw drops.
“Oh. My.Fucking.God.”
Cue everyone else, swarming and yelling, “What happened? What’s going on?”
And here we go.
Harrison steps beside me, lacing our fingers as we hold up our hands, showing off our matching rings. “Surprise,” I grin. “I’m officially a Price.”
Now, cue the squeals—Isla’s the loudest, obviously. The guys swarm Harrison, slapping him on the back like they just won the grand final. I roll my eyes. Boys.
Isla snatches my hand, yanking it close. “Oh my God, it’s perfect! He nailed it!”
“Didn’t he?” I beam, still marveling at howmeit is.
Her pout is instant. “Bitch, I wanted to be your maid of honour!”
“Sorry, boo.” I shrug. “It just felt right.”
She sighs dramatically, but bounces back in a second. “Fine. But wait ‘til Claire hears about this.”
I laugh. “Oh, I’ve got more good news…”
Isla’s already vibrating. “We have news, too!”
“You first.”
She practically explodes. “I’m having another baby!”
“Shut the fuck up! I’m pregnant, too!”
Her scream matches mine, and suddenly, we’re jumping around like idiots. So much for being the mature ones. The guys finally notice, so Harrison takes Joseph from me as I hug Isla tight.
“Jesus Christ,” Michael groans. “Do you lot have nothing better to do?”
Everyone bursts into laughter. Harrison grins, smacking my ass. “Can’t help it. She’s irresistible.” I glare back, swatting him right back, yet I can’t help rid the grin now plastered to my face.
“Wait!” Isla exclaims, her voice rising. “There’s more!”
“What do you mean, more?”
She spins dramatically, turning to face Amelia and Bradley, who are standing off to the side. Amelia holds up her hand showing off her ring—her smile practically glowing. “We’re getting married!”
The squealing erupts again, louder this time. I can’t even keep up with all the high-pitched chatter, but I don’t need to. The joy’s in the air, and it’s absolutely contagious.
“If I don’t catch the next fucking bouquet, I’m done.” Olivia says, throwing her hands up.
