Page 66 of Surviving Love
“I have nothing to say to you.”
He put his thumbs in the waist of his shorts, and he dropped them to the sand. For some reason, I looked away like some stupid blushing virgin. He walked toward me, splashing as he approached.
I glared at him as he stopped a few feet from me.
“Can I use your soap?” he asked, holding out his hand.
“Are you fucking crazy?”
He laughed. “No. I’m fucking filthy.”
I shook my head. “I’m not sharing anything with you.”
“Come on, Mason, don’t be like that,” he said softly.
I hated that my body seemed to respond to his husky voice. My dick warmed, and I turned so he didn’t notice I was getting hard. How could I hate someone but still be turned on by them? I didn’t get it.
I moved further out into the water, hoping he’d give up and leave. But he just followed. I stopped when the water was waist-high because it hid my dick well enough.
“I know you’re upset with me,” he said.
“Gee, you’re brilliant.”
He smiled. “I didn’t betray you.”
“You are a fuckingliar.” I shouted the last word. I pointed my finger at him. “I trusted you. I told you something personal, and you used it against me, afterpromisingme you wouldn’t do that.”
He moved even closer. “I had a reason for telling them about your asthma.”
“Was it so you could win a million dollars, by any chance?”
He shook his head. “No.”
“Liar,” I hissed.
“Mason, calm down and listen to me.” His jaw was tight.
“No, thanks.” I started to turn away, and he grabbed my wrist. I scowled at him. “Let go.”
“Just listen to me,please.” He let go of me.
I narrowed my eyes. “What could you possibly say that would make what you did okay?”
He glanced around. “Harold said something to Sherry yesterday that got me worrying.”
“What did he say?”
He sighed. “He told her he was uneasy that you and me seemed to be getting along so well.”
“Really?” I frowned. “What did we do to give him that idea?”
“I’m not sure. Maybe he’s intuitive.”
“I don’t think we did anything. He’s just paranoid.”
He shrugged. “Either way, that’s not good for us.”
“I don’t know that I believe you,” I grumbled. “You’re a master manipulator.”
