THIRTEEN
SARAH
D ays passed in awkward glances and flushed cheeks—largely mine. While Jake’s home was extensive, with each passing day it shrank around me, walls closing in wherever Drew lurked. Wherever I went, he was there.
There when we ate.
There when we relaxed.
Probably shimmying up a drainpipe to be there when we fucked. Not that there had been a lot of that. Trapped somewhere between guilt and fear, I’d been feeling sick to my stomach since my bar exchange with Drew.
I’d let him disgrace me right there as my boyfriend sat in view. The excuse that he’d used what I’d done to manipulate me into complying worked in my head at first. Until I kept clenching at the memory of him between my thighs, fingers stroking my need while his filthy words set me alight.
Hating him had made the orgasm all the stronger. Looking around at the faces of a dozen people I knew, who had no idea what was happening, had turned me into putty.
And now?
Now I sat beside Jake in the snug, acting like his brother hadn’t threatened to ruin our lives. Pretending. Acting.
Jake’s wide hand traced tender circles on the exposed skin of my thigh. The smooth touch both soothed and agitated me in equal measure. On the screen, an action dude stormed through a building, surrounded by muzzle flashes and over the top explosions.
I’d failed to follow the plot, lost in my own thoughts.
Jake’s hand moved higher, grazing the edge of my skirt. The couch jerked, air puffing from the leather cushions as Drew launched himself into the spot beside Jake.
I worked very hard to avoid sneering at him.
Making a Jake sandwich with the dickhead who wanted to destroy me wasn’t on my bingo card that night.
‘Alright, fuckers,’ Drew said casually, draping an arm over the rear of the sofa, skirting along Jake’s muscled back. My skin prickled at his proximity to my man.
I shimmied closer to Jake, letting his hand slide even higher, his fingers disappearing beneath the hem of my dress. Drew’s gaze caught on Jake’s hand, his eyes narrowing.
Satisfaction bubbled up at the look on his face. Annoyance.
Drew might be sneaking around like an agent of chaos, but Jake still belonged to me. And I’d make sure Drew knew it.
‘Mmm, babe,’ I cooed, sliding a thigh up onto his lap, his fingers tracing thrilling trails along my skin. ‘That feels good.’
Jake smiled at me before planting a sweet kiss on my temple.
Drew choked on a laugh. I scowled at him behind Jake’s head.
Asshole .
‘Cracking film,’ Drew said, leaning into the corner of the couch, so he faced us. His hard stare softened whenever Jake turned his way, but otherwise it was like taking fiery lasers to the head.
‘Yeah, love this one. The final action scene always gets my pulse going.’ Jake leant forward and picked up a handful of M&M's, tipping half of them into his mouth.
‘Not going to share any of those with Sarah?’ Drew said. ‘I’ve heard she can never get enough…’
The words were loaded, and I felt heat rushing into my ears. His hidden context missed Drew entirely.
‘Sorry, sweetheart, here you go.’ Drew opened his hand to reveal a few of the chocolate sweets.
I didn’t particularly want one, but didn’t want Jake questioning what the heck Drew was going on about. Reaching out to take one, I froze when Drew slowly shook his head. Wagging a finger, he then brought it to his lips before pointing to Jake’s open mouth.
He wanted me to eat it like a fucking pet?
No way.
Ensuring Jake remained engrossed in his movie, I shook my head.
Like a cocky motherfucker, Drew smirked and nodded.
Do it, he mouthed. Be a good girl for me.
Never, I mouthed right back.
A devious grin broke as he used his hands and mouth to make it clear he was saying, Do it, or I tell him.
So I did.
Jake watched quizzically as I cupped his hand, lowering my mouth to the coloured candies like I was feeding straight from him. My lips grazed his palm, my tongue stealing one sugar-crusted sweet.
‘Damn,’ he murmured, a thumb stroking my jaw as he watched me eat. ‘That was hot.’
Drew leaned close to Jake, whispering something into his ear. Whatever he said made Jake turn red.
‘Come on, babe,’ Jake said, standing and pulling me upright. ‘Let’s head upstairs.’
‘But your movie is only halfway done.’
‘We’ve seen it before. It’ll keep.’ Taking my hand, he led me away, straight past Drew’s smirk, which burned like a brand.
