THREE YEARS LATER
J ayden’s hands clenched into fists as he watched Mr. Dobery Helven lean over Stephan, with his smarmy bright-white smile. “Now that business has concluded, how about a drink?”
Stephan's little button nose wrinkled slightly as he let out a very fake soft laugh. “Oh, I couldn’t, it’s so late. You really should get going.”
A year…a whole fucking year, Jayden had put up with watching this bitch ass motherfucker flirt and flash his fucking smile at Stephan. No matter how much the elf had brushed the vampire off, obviously rejecting him, it was like the man never got a fucking clue!
UGH, FUCK! He wanted to kill someone so badly… He just didn’t know why.
No, he knew why. The ‘why’ was that he always wanted to kill someone. And it had been three stupid ass years since he had. Jayden had yet to break the promise he’d made to Stephan three years ago… Go him…
What he didn’t know was why he always wanted to kill even more when this particular bastard showed his ugly mug.
Jayden needed to get out of there now. He started to walk quickly through the foyer, keeping his eyes on the two men, but stumbled to a stop, seeing red as Helven wrapped an arm around Stephan’s slim shoulders.
With his fangs grinding together, he stared while his blood boiled with pure hot rage. He would leave all right… The question was…where would he go…?
“ P lease! Stop, please!” Helven screamed, as Jayden dragged the man across the fluffy white carpet, leaving a blood trail behind him.
“What was that?” he sneered. “‘Keep going’ you say? Don’t mind if I do.”
He silenced the man with a thought, tired of hearing the vampire yell so loudly. Not that the guy’s thoughts were any quieter.
“ Why?! ” the man cried in his head.
Helven’s thoughts were rather simple, to be honest. Because they were pretty much all questioning Jayden’s actions in every way possible.
His gaze trailed over the man’s bloodied form. He had stab wounds everywhere, and some of his limbs were bent the wrong way. While the vampire was bleeding a lot, and was definitely a bit broken, in Jayden’s opinion, he was perfectly fine, mainly as he still had all his limbs.
“Why?” the man thought again.
He grimaced as the noise kept coming. Did he really need to go all out? Just killing him was enough, wasn’t it?
“WHY!?!”
“FUCK!” Jayden growled, as he let go of the man’s wrist and kicked the vampire onto his back. “Would you shut up!? How’s a man supposed to torture in peace with you going on so pathetically?!” He crouched by the elf’s head. “You want to know why? Why you? Why I’m doing any of this?!”
“You can…hear me?”
“Yes, dumb fuck, I can,” he scoffed. “But fine, I’ll tell you. It’s because I can. Because I want to. Because you touched what’s MINE !” Jayden roared.
He jerked back, his eyes widening with shock as the last word left his mouth.
Mine? No…that wasn’t right. Stephan wasn’t… Why am I doing this?
How the fuck had he managed to go this far? To come this far without stopping to think about why…
Was it just because the man flirted with Stephan? Because Helven touched the elf? Why…why would that matter? If Stephan wanted to stop it, he would have.
I have no right to interfere.
His hand clenched around the knife as an odd surge of anger flared up at the thought, and with it came even more confusion.
Why would that make him angry?! Why would any of this be a reason to break the one rule Jayden had ever put into place? To never kill a single innocent person… Why was killing this man worth breaking, not only that, but the pr omise he kept to the person who meant everything to him…
Jayden straightened up when his heart started to race. Staring down at the man, whose thoughts were adding to the questions running through his mind, he swallowed hard, before knocking Helven out with barely a thought.
Was Stephan everything to him? If he was…what did that mean? Was he… Could it be possible that he was…
Jayden dropped the knife and shakily rubbed his face with a groan. “Oh, fuck me!”
Stephan was the reason, he knew that, but… If he was doing this because the man had touched the little elf, had flirted with him…then…
Jayden groaned again as he kept coming to the same conclusion over and over. And that conclusion, the only one that made any fucking sense, was that he was…in love.
With his head still throbbing from that world-tilting realization, and knowing he could not kill the man now passed out on the floor, he looked around and sagged as he saw all the blood he now would have to try to clean out of the very, very white carpet.
“Fuck me…”
