Page 32 of Starting Over
Wyatt finally understood what his little mate was doing… he was scenting the thunder.
Son of a bitch, how could he not have figured that out sooner. Hell, his dragon hadn’t liked Rain going from dragon to dragon instead of staying with him, but now he got it. Rain was scenting his thunder so he could recognize friend from foe.
It wasn’t like Rain had had a chance to get to know his men. They’d only just arrived the day before, and on that day they had all been in a long meeting, first together when Wyatt had gone over Pit’s offer, and again when they accepted his offer.
So, he and his team were officially moving to Montana when this case was done… well, he thought that would be the case, he hadn’t exactly had time to discuss the matter with Rain. He’d meant to, but by the time he’d gotten to their room, Rain was sound asleep and Wyatt hadn’t wanted to disturb him.
Wyatt had meant to talk with him this morning, but then he’d woken to Rain in the shower and seeing his mate, naked… wet… and looking so fucking good… wellllll, talking about his horde moving to Drago was honestly not at the top of his list, and then they’d had breakfast and River started talking to Rain about his elephant shrew, and the next thing Wyatt knew they were all shifting and going outside to play.
Wyatt stayed on alert, even though Smoky had made sure the area was clear and safe to even shift, let alone play. So far it had been fun, but it was time they got back to work. It wasn’t fair to ask Smoky to do their job.
Currently Rain was on Orca’s back sniffing around when Wyatt shifted, and called out loud enough so his mate would hear, “It’s time to get back to business, guys. Shift.”
A loud squeak was heard when Orca shifted, effectively dropping Rain to the ground. He continued to make the sound as he rushed around Orca making his displeasure known.
Wyatt rushed to his mate, growling at Orca as he passed. Orca just rolled his eyes and kept walking, but apparently Rain wasn’t finished cussing his man out in shrew style because he rushed to Orca, leaping on his foot and running up Orca’s leg.
“What the fuck!” Orca shouted as he danced from foot to foot, looking as if he wanted to smack Rain, but knowing if he harmed Wyatt’s mate in any way shape or form, Wyatt would kick his fucking ass.
“Ouch! Son of a bitch!” Orca dropped to the ground cupping his balls, hissing, “Not the balls! Not the balls!”
Wyatt could see that Rain was currently at the man’s upper thigh, and from the looks of it he was quite high and close, and his dragon didn’t like that even a little. “Rain! Get out of there now! I will lose my shit if you bite one of my men’s balls.”
Seeing Orca’s pants moving as Rain scurried out of the leg, he then went to Orca’s head and chittered before taking a bite out of the man’s nose.
“Fuck!” Orca shouted as he held his nose, and Rain turned and pranced to Wyatt. Wyatt could have sworn his mate was fucking smiling, and that alone had a huge grin forming as he knelt down and allowed his mate to crawl onto the palm of his hand.
Leaving Orca screaming on the ground, Wyatt walked past the gaping men saying, “And that, my friends, is what happens when you piss off an elephant shrew shifter. I suggest you heed my mate’s warning.”

“How about we go outside with our coffee while the men have their meeting with Pit and the others?” Jude suggested.
Rain sighed, “Sure. Sounds good to me.”
Rain grabbed his cup and stepped outside breathing in the fresh air. It was a bit nippy out here, but Rain really loved the outdoors… especially the mornings.
Jude sat in a chair overlooking the river sighing, “I’m going to have to go back soon.”
“Yeah, I know,” Rain said, knowing what he was going to ask.
“Do you plan on joining us?” Jude asked.
Sighing, Rain replied, “It’s what my mate wants.”
“I didn’t ask that. I asked if you plan on joining us?” Jude asked again.
Rain looked at Jude, “I go where my mate goes.”
“Oookay,” Jude said with that one long drawn out word.
Rolling his eyes, Rain replied, “Look, It’s not so simple for me. I’m not from the states, Jude. I have to apply, get a passport and…”
“You do realize that both DOA and Wyatt have tech guys that can make that happen. Hell, Lex told me that being a shifter and not aging meant that he had to change his identity after a certain time because aging is so slow with you guys you have no choice. He also said you guys moved… a lot for the same reason. So, what’s the real issue here?” Jude questioned sternly.
Rain tilted his head back and looked to the sky, saying, “I don’t know. I’m kinda scared.”
“Scared of what?”
