Sloane’s punishment conversation was equally enlightening.

When told that her punishment was to guard Fenya for the rest of her stay in shifts of sixteen hours on, eight off, she asked for a more severe punishment.

She did not feel that it was severe enough for her mistake, as she liked Fenya and considered her a friend.

“Sloane, you have just said yourself, you made a mistake. You are not being punished for a crime, only for a mistake in judgement. They seem to be prevalent at the moment. You will be in close proximity to Fenya for sixteen hours, however, as her guard you will not have the luxury of conversation or friendship.”

Finally, alone in the office, I get time to consider the day's events. I can’t recall ever having lost my cool so much, ever. Lost my cool enough to curse, too.

Hunter says reassuringly. That was because you were concerned for Fenya. It is understandable and forgivable.

‘I still have to deal with that issue.’

I suggest you do so in a much calmer manner than in recent conversations. Your feelings for her mean that your buttons are much more easily pushed.

‘What has Astra had to say? Anything useful?’ I ask, nosily.

We are not discussing it. We have no problems regarding the Goddess’ choice. You humans, however, are a different story. You need to resolve them yourselves and quickly. The Goddess doesn’t like to have her choices questioned and may withdraw the mating.

‘I’m going to get freshened up before I have to face anything else. Maybe when I’m all clean and sparkly I’ll be able to deal with Fenya in a reasonable manner.’

Clean and sparkly? You sound like Flick or Blossom. Have you been spending time around them I don’t know about? Hunter chuckles in his deep wolfy way.

‘I don’t know where that came from. I’m tired. Leave me be.’

Laughing at myself, I head for the Alpha Suite and a long, hot shower. Passing the guest suite, I’m tempted to get this over and done with, but decide discretion is the better part of valor, and the shower is a better place to be right now.

Opening the door to my suite I stop and stare.

The pickernic! I forgot that I’d asked Flick to set it up in here.

We’re supposed to be having storms today and tomorrow, so I asked if she could make it realistic indoors.

Perhaps this atmosphere will relax my mood enough to stay civil. Good luck with that today.

Out of the shower and dressed casually in a t-shirt and jeans, I poke my head out of the door and call to Sloane. “Warrior Sloane, please escort our guest to my suite at her earliest convenience. Casual attire is the order of the day.”

I’m sure that my own warrior guard would love to smirk at what he thinks is going to happen behind these closed doors, but he wouldn’t dare.

Sloane is knocking on the guest suite door as I close my own door. Expecting to be kept waiting a ‘femininely’ amount of time, I’m surprised when only moments later there is a knock on the door.

“Enter.” The door opens and Fenya steps in. She looks around the room before her eyes settle on the blankets and food set out across the floor.

“I was not expecting to be having this type of conversation before we enjoyed our first pickernic together. I arranged for this before the events that recently unfolded. We are supposed to be having storms in the coming hours and my idea of having it in one of the larger greenhouses was deemed unworthy by the powers that control those things.”

“You mean my friends Flick and Blossom? They are very persuasive in a very non-persuasive manner.” Fenya grins.

“Yes, I forgot they were also your friends. You seem to have a lot of friends here at the Spirit Walker Pack, despite the fact that you were brought here against your will.” I cannot help being caustic and I’m immediately regretful when I see the hurt in Fenya’s eyes.

“I’m sorry. That was uncalled for and hurtful. ”

“Hurtful, yes, but I’m not sure it was uncalled for.

I have been anything but a gracious guest since my arrival, and cannot count the number of times that various people have pointed that out, or been gracious to me.

You have been very patient and more with me.

I thank you for that.” Fenya has the saddest smile on her face that I have ever seen, and my heart almost stops at the sight.

It seems that she has made her decision.

“Before you tell me your decision, because it is obvious that you have reached one, can I just say that I was never angry at you. My anger was born of fear that something would happen to you. Even if we never saw each other again after this moment, I would answer your call if you made one to me. I feel that even after a rejection we would somehow still be tied for the rest of our lives.”

“Yes.”

“You feel that way too? Then we shall at least have that in our future.” Gesturing to the food laid out, I say, “Shall we eat? It looks far too good to go to waste, don’t you think?”

Get your human to shut up talking. He needs to use his ears and not his mouth! Astra snaps at Hunter.

I told him, as we agreed, that we wouldn’t involve ourselves in their human stupidity, Hunter replies.

HUNTER! You are as dense as your human at times. She is trying to accept the mating. Tell him to SHUT UP AND LISTEN!

Oh! OH! Hunter realizes. Lyle, you need to shut up and listen to Fenya. You are not hearing her words. LISTEN TO HER!

“I’m sorry. What did you say?” I look at Fenya and wait.

“I said yes.” She says this so quietly I hardly hear her.

“Yes to what, Fenya?”

“Yes to you. Yes to the mating. Yes to everything.”

I sit there aghast at her words. This was not what I was expecting to hear.

Our wolves however are far ahead of us. Without a word, Hunter bursts forth and a second later, Astra joins him.

They jump and cavort around the room like a couple of pups high on their first rabbit chase.

Knowing how much effort it would take to subdue them and take human form, I settle back in our mind and trust that this will not lead to a wild and hectic mating session.
