Page 7 of Silver (Shunned Mages #2)

Wilston

Silver was a mystery. Did he already have his magic?

How was a person able to look so well put together even while sleeping?

I probably shouldn’t stare at him while he slept, but I couldn’t stop myself.

I knew he had a soulmatch that could arrive at any moment, and I did, too, but my eyes wouldn’t stray from his sleeping form.

The peaceful smile he had while dreaming was…

alluring in a way I couldn’t explain. I wanted to taste those lips. But they weren’t mine to kiss.

Suppressing a sigh, I leaned back and stared at the dark ceiling.

Xarius had offered me something to wear, but I’d opted for my boxers instead, hoping Silver wouldn’t mind seeing so much of my body.

I didn’t like borrowing clothes, and I preferred to sleep in my underwear.

A cute sound from Silver brought my attention back to him.

I wasn’t getting any sleep tonight.

I found that I didn’t even mind that.

The world was a beautiful place. Or at least it was from where I was currently lying.

Silver lay on top of me, his hands and legs tangled with mine.

I fought the itch to run my hands down his back in soothing motions; it wasn’t right of me to touch him.

He didn’t sleep on top of me on purpose, it was simply something he did in his sleep.

He’d be mortified if he woke up with my hands on him without his consent.

I wasn’t asleep. I couldn’t blame it on that.

And I knew he wouldn’t have picked me to sleep on had his soulmatch been there instead.

I tried to think about something other than the beautiful man on top of me.

I’d called Emma before we went to bed, explaining that I had some family stuff to deal with and had to quit.

Thankfully, she didn’t ask further questions, knowing by now I wasn’t big on talking.

I informed her that I would clean out my stuff from the apartment and that she could do whatever she wanted with the things I’d left behind.

Since she’d already sold it, it was only a matter of time anyway before I had to move out.

As soon as the others were up, we would shower, dress, then find somewhere to eat. Xarius had explained it was easier in that order if we got attacked, leaving my place last and then leaving town immediately after.

Niam had said they knew how to make wards so we shouldn’t be in danger, but they still liked to be cautious. When I dared ask how often they’d been attacked, their answer scared me. They didn’t know.

Snowflake came into the room, not caring he was making noise as he jumped into the bed, rousing Silver awake.

He blinked his eyes open slowly, then they widened. “Oh! I’m so sorry!” he said, jumping away from me. I tried not to let my emotions show just how devastated I was from the loss of his warm body, smiling at him instead.

“It’s okay. You have no control when you’re asleep. I get it.” I liked talking to Silver, but I had to remember less was more, and I really didn’t want to accidentally offend him.

He rubbed his eyes and gave me a smile in return. “Not that I wouldn’t snuggle up to you willingly.” He winked and left the room, leaving me alone and confused in bed.

Snowflake started purring as he took over most of the bed, waiting for me to pet him.

I’d only seen Leon and Snowflake briefly before bed, and was thankful they wouldn’t be sleeping in our room.

I needed to get used to the idea that a snow leopard and ostrich wouldn’t be dangerous.

Now I found myself petting Snowflake while I went over what Silver had said.

Did he mean it?
