I knew it was coming, but it still hit me like a sucker punch. I kept my expression carefully blank. For a moment, I stared at him. “No.” The lie tasted sour on my tongue. “And even if I had? I’m not exactly mate material. I’d probably send my fated running for the hills.”

He snorted. “Right. Like anyone in their right mind would be stupid enough to run fromyou.”

Dallon crossed his arms over his chest and pinned me with a “duh” look. “Have you looked in a mirror lately?
