Page 56 of Severed By Vengeance
He leaned in, trapping me against the arm of the sofa and his body.
“Did you already forget what I told you, angel?”
Mine.
How could I forget? I was getting wet just thinking about it.
His eyes were on my lips as he snaked a hand around the small of my back.
“No, but I don’t understand,” I admitted breathily, hating that my voice seemed to have a mind of its own.
“I know you’re still hung up on the search for this girl. But I need you to promise me that you won’t do anything stupid while I’m gone.”
His words warmed my heart in ways I hadn’t felt in so long, but I also couldn’t help becoming slightly annoyed.
“Did you forget that I had a whole life and career before we met?”
He let out a short laugh. “Keyword:before.” Nothing was gentle about how he gripped my cheek and forced our eyes to meet. And the way his dominance was wrecking my underwear had me questioning everything. “I already warned you. You’re in my life, and—”
“Yours,” I whispered, staring directly into his eyes.
In one quick movement, he grabbed my hips and tossed me onto his lap. With a hand at the nape of my neck, he pulled me down toward his lips, stopping just a breath away. I pushed forward because I needed a taste, but he held me firm, both hands cradling the sides of my face.
“Don’t play with me, Derek.”
“Don’t insult me. I don’t play games.” His hand moved to my neck and tightened as he ran his mouth along my jaw. “Iwillhave you, Eva. All of you.”
“Will you? That’s pretty ambitious of you, Cain,” I said, trying to sound like I wasn’t melting into a puddle in his lap.
“I always get what I want.”
“I’m not trying to be just another woman in your bed, Derek. That’s not what this is.”
He chuckled into the skin behind my ear, and my eyes fluttered closed. “I’ve never had a woman in my bed. Never brought one to my home. I don’t share my intimate spaces with easy pussy.”
I snapped my eyes open and motioned to remove myself off his lap.
Easy pussy, huh? That arrogant son of a bitch.
Derek’s fingers dug into my skin.
“Sit.” There was that voice again. The powerful timbre cemented me in place. “We’re not done talking.”
My hands wrapped around his wrists. “Let me up. I won’t sit here while you insult me. I’m not one of your groupies. I’m not easy pussy.”
His shit-eating grin was absolutely aggravating.
“If I thought of you that way, I would have bent you over the hood of my Bentley the day you showed up at my door.”
My mouth fell open as I attempted to come up with a response, but my thoughts quickly turned on me, conjuring the sinful vision he’d planted in my head. I clamped down on my jaw, sealing in the moan trying to escape.
“Now, tell me what happened back there.” His voice was surprisingly tender.
I looked away and shook my head, surprised he’d brought the subject back up so soon. “As I said, it was a long time ago. Someone I thought I could trust betrayed me in the worst way.”
“Did he…”
“No, but he wanted to. He tried to. But I don’t want to talk about it.”
