Absurd as that logic was.
“Okay,” I said, choosing not to question his request. “Did you want me to pick up lunch?”
He put a hand on my neck, his thumb smoothing along my chin. “No, go straight home. I’ll place an order.”
The chimes suddenly ceased, only to resume by way of a loud ringtone from Derek’s pocket.
“Dramatic fuck.”
“Maybe it’s an emergency.”
“I doubt it.” His hands settled on my backside and squeezed, pinning me to him. “Promise me you’ll go straight home. You know the code.”
“Please don’t do that. I don’t want to feel like I’m trapped.”
“Eva, there are dangerous people out there who are looking to harm you. Until that threat has been neutralized, we need to take precautions.”
I rolled my eyes and nodded. “I know. I just hate feeling so damn helpless.”
Derek rested his forehead on my shoulder; his small gestures of affection warmed my heart and other places on my body, adding to the stickiness between my thighs.
“Let me deal with this here, and I’ll be home. Told you I’m not done with you just yet,” he growled into my neck.
“Oh? And what should I be anticipating?”
Brushing his lips along my throat, Derek inhaled and said, “You, on your knees, angel. And that pretty mouth around my cock, finishing the job wearing nothing but this new necklace.”
My core flared white-hot at his dirty words as I ran my tongue along the contours of my lips and feathered my fingers around my throat. My mouth was suddenly watering. That particular deed had never been a favorite of mine. It was always more of an obligation. Reciprocating the favor. But with Derek, it was different.
Everything with him was different.
“Don’t keep me waiting too long,” I said, tipping up onto my toes. What was meant to be a sweet goodbye peck quickly turned into a heated kiss as our tongues battled for dominance.
He scooped me onto his hips, and the friction between my thighs forced a moan to slither from my throat and into his mouth.
“Derek,” I panted. “Ronan is about to break down that door.”
“Fuck him,” he said, now suckling the base of my neck.
I chuckled as I tipped my head back, fingernails on his scalp. “Later, baby.” I gently pulled on his hair so that he could look at me. “And you better put me down before I ruin your shirt. My thong is in your pocket.”
“Busted.” He laughed, kissing me one last time before setting me on the floor.

Ronan’s sharp voice echoed from the main room down the hall as I dressed in the bathroom sans underwear.
As expected, he was angry. Derek was not the type of man to hold his tongue for anyone, but he also wasn’t the type to lose his cool, so it didn’t shock me when he didn’t take the bait.
I padded to the front entrance, debating briefly whether to intervene, but decided against it. It wasn’t my place.
The chill of the wind blew through my clothes, biting into my skin as I ran toward Derek’s car and climbed inside.
He’d told me to go straight home, and while I knew I should, I needed to see my father. As I came upon the intersection, I turned toward my childhood home.
Derek would understand.
As I pulled into my father’s driveway, he was backing out of his garage. I’d caught him just in time.
