“Great, won’t be long now.” She tried to keep the smile plastered on her face and stop her panic from bubbling up.
“We can’t wait to see it.” Bert stood and then helped Harry. “But don’t let us rush you.”
“Don’t worry, I won’t. I’m taking my time to get it just perfect.”
“That’s what we want. Have a nice day, ladies.”
After the two men ambled off, everyone turned to Maxi.
“So, you’ve made a breakthrough with the painting. I knew you could do it,” Jane said.
“Hardly, I just couldn’t disappoint them.” Maxi hated the look of sympathy in their eyes.
Luckily, that didn’t last long because Jane’s phone pinged. She looked down at it. “Just got an email. Another applicant. This one is older. I hope she’ll fit the bill.”
