“A frittata?” Mike’s brows shot up. “I’ll be over first thing in the morning.”

“It is nice to get out. So I’m really focusing on my hunt for someone to take some shifts at Tides now,” Jane said as Kristie slid calamari, steamers, and fish dip onto their table.

“Did you say you’re hiring at Tides?” Kristi asked Jane then blushed. “Sorry, I couldn’t help but overhear.”

“It’s no problem. I’m looking for someone to work part-time.”

“My cousin has been looking for something. Could I have her call or drop in?”

Jane looked a little hesitant, but Mike spoke up.

“That sounds perfect, doesn’t it?” He looked at Jane.

“Yes. I suppose it does.” Jane picked a clam out of its shell and swirled it in the broth. “Maybe she could stop by tomorrow. I’ll be there all morning.”

“Okay. Thanks, I’ll tell her.” Kristi left.

“I think it’s great that you are starting to look for help,” Claire said. “You won’t regret hiring someone. I love having Hailey to depend on, and Rob loves Tillie and Ella. It gives us more of a chance to be together.”

The two of them smiled at each other so brightly that Maxi nearly heard wedding bells.

She was glad Jane was thinking about getting help. It would be good for Andie too. They both worked so hard, and Jane deserved to spend more time with Mike. Maxi remembered helping Jane through that horrible first year after her husband died. And she’d always tried to encourage Jane to date again years afterward, but she’d never found anyone until Mike. Mike was obviously smitten with Jane. Spending more time together would be a good thing for them both.

Maxi spread some fish dip on a cracker. She was content to eat good food on the beach with her best friends. Now, if only she could nail down the painting, everything would be perfect.
