Page 26 of Scarlett and the Fake Boyfriend (Scarlett #2)
“I don’t know. You’re the one that’s so good at calc. ”
Sophie laughed. “But seriously, you know who makes a vague countdown like this? Someone with a secret, that’s who.”
“True.”
We both just stared at it for a moment.
“How about we figure out what day that leads to later.” I pulled out my phone and snapped a picture of the page we were on. “Right now we need to keep looking for a second phone.”
“Good plan. And we don’t even know for sure it’s days. It could be anything. We’ll circle back.” Sophie closed the journal and slid it back into the drawer.
But we looked and looked and nothing else seemed suspicious at all.
“Is it time yet?” Parker asked. She had a crayon ready in her hand.
“Maybe,” Sophie said.
I glared at her. I didn’t want to be the bad guy here. But Parker could not under any circumstances draw on Axel’s wall. I didn’t want Axel to know we’d been in here.
Sophie’s phone buzzed. She pulled it out and her eyes grew round. “We need to use Axel’s computer. ASAP.” She flipped open the lid of the laptop.
“Soph, what are you doing?”
“It’s important, trust me.” She stared at the screen asking for the password. “Any idea what the password is, Parker?”
“Maybe.”
Sophie turned to her. “So spill it.”
“Let me draw on the wall.”
“I will let you draw a picture that I will hang on my wall.”
Parker scrunched her lips to the side like she was actually considering it. “Can it be framed?”
“Absolutely.”
“My art is expensive.”
Sophie raised her eyebrow. “What’s the going rate?”
“I think like...20 dollars.”
“Hm. Okay. If I pay you 20 dollars for a Parker original, will you not draw on Axel’s wall? And not tell him about any of this? And give us the password?”
“Deal.” Parker stuck out her hand.
Sophie shook it. “So what’s the password?”
“It’s Scarlett’s birthday.”
Wait, really? I looked at Sophie.
But Sophie was already typing it in. The password screen disappeared.
I couldn’t believe that Axel’s password was my birthday.
“We’re going to need more shots,” Sophie said.
“On it!” Parker ran out of the room.
I laughed and turned around. “What’s going on...” my voice trailed off when Sophie opened up the camera footage of the locker room. “I got an alert about someone going into the locker room. I knew we had to watch this full screen.”
I leaned forward. The screen was split from the different angles. But it was dark. I couldn’t see anything. But then all the screens lit up when someone hit the lights.
“Shit. Look!” Sophie pointed to the top screen and clicked on it to zoom in. “Wait. Is that Luis the Cheater?”
I leaned I closer. “Yes. But that’s not his girlfriend. ”
“I knew he was a cheater! Scarlett, if he’s stepping out on his girlfriend, he might be stepping out to be your kiss thief too.”
I groaned.
“Wait. But who is he with?”
“No.” I leaned in even closer. “Is that...is that Georgia?”
Sophie gasped. “It is.”
We both watched as Georgia dropped to her knees in front of Luis. She slowly undid the buckle of his belt.
“Wait,” Sophie said. “Didn’t Axel say he was with Georgia?”
I nodded. “He did.”
“Oh my God,” Sophie said. “Do you think Axel is about to pop out and join?”
“What? No. I think he lied to me.”
“Or he’s about to pop out from behind those lockers.”
I shook my head. But for some reason we kept watching.
“You could probably get some pointers from this footage,” Sophie said.
“Stop it. And Axel isn’t popping out. He clearly lied about being with Georgia tonight. Why would he do that?”
“To make you jealous,” Sophie said.
“But...why?”
Sophie pointed to the picture of Axel and me playing Pretty Pretty Princess. “Because he’s in love with you.”
“The empty box of condoms says otherwise.”
“It was still half-full. ”
I gasped.
“Gah! You tricked me into telling you!”
“Hi, Mom!” Parker yelled really loudly for us to hear. “Hi, Dad!!”
“Ah!” I yelled.
“Did we put everything back?” I said and spun around to check as Sophie slammed the laptop closed.
“There’s no time!” She grabbed my hand and pulled me out the door. She locked it from the inside and then shut it.
We started running down the hall, but froze when Aunt Hails appeared at the end of the hallway.
“What are you girls doing?” she asked.
“Bathroom,” I said. I couldn’t help but feel like I’d just sounded like Gog.
“Together?” Aunt Hails asked.
“Of course, Aunt Hails,” Sophie said. “Don’t be basic. Single Girl Rule #3: Never let a friend go into the bathroom alone.”
“Single girl what? I’ve never heard of that before.”
“It’s a Russian thing. But we really should be going. Parker was great. Always a gem. Love you, bye!” Sophie pulled me past Aunt Hails.
I waited for Aunt Hails to stop us. But she didn’t. So we kept going.
We walked past Parker in the kitchen. She raised one of her teacups in the air and nodded to us.
I was pretty sure she’d have our backs here. She was such a little baller.
We said goodbye to Uncle Tyler and went out the front door. As soon as it clicked shut behind us, Sophie froze.
“Oh no,” she said. Her face grew pale.
“What? ”
“Crap. Crap, crap, crap!”
“What?” I said. “What did you do?”
“It wasn’t my fault! We were in a hurry. I was panicking.”
“Soph. Just tell me.”
“I’m so sorry.”
“Soph!”
“I didn’t ex out of the camera footage of the men’s locker room. When Axel opens his computer he’s going to see that we’ve been spying on his whole team. Naked spying.”
