Khalif
Sunday
A fter Remedi had left, I waited to hear something back from her, but heard nothing.
I tried reaching out to her that night to make sure she was okay, but she didn’t answer the phone.
Worry sank in. I ended up stopping by her house the next day, and Reese told me that Remedi’s dog died.
I felt so bad for her that I’d sent her several bouquets of roses and sunflowers to help make her feel better, even though I knew that it wouldn’t.
Remedi losing her dog is like someone losing their child. I can imagine how she felt is ’cause I’d lost animals before and it hurt. I didn’t want to pressure her into talking to me, so I was leaving her alone ’til she felt like being bothered.
This morning, I was getting Khali ready for church when my phone chimed. Pulling it from my pocket, I saw it was a message from Remedi. Are you coming to church today?
That’s something that I hadn’t done in forever. Knowing what she was going through, I knew I couldn’t turn her down. For you, yeah.
We needed to be at church in the next thirty minutes, so I didn’t have the time to go in there and find something else to wear.
I was wearing these denim jeans and a graphic t-shirt.
This was just gon’ have to do. My plans were to come back home and relax ’round the house ’til it was time for me to go over Ma’s for dinner.
“You ready?” I asked Khali when I slipped my phone back into my pocket.
“Yes, Daddy.” She grabbed her lil name initial purse and headed for her bedroom door.
We left out the house, and I opened the back door for her. She climbed up, grabbed her seat belt, and put it on. I shut the door and climbed into the driver’s seat.
“Daddy, I want to do something for Remedi.”
I’d told her all ’bout how Remedi’s dog died, and she felt so bad for her.
“Something like what?” I questioned her as I drove to the church.
“I don’t know. What do you think she’ll like?”
Well, that’s a hard question to answer. I’d already bought her all the roses and sunflowers in town. “I don’t know. Maybe you should draw her something. She seems to like your drawings.”
“You’re right! I’ll draw her a picture of Prada.” I looked at Khali through the rear-view mirror, and she smiled from ear to ear.
We pulled into the church parking lot, and I parked my truck. As always, Ma was waiting by the steps for Khali. We got out and walked over to her.
“Hey, Grandma’s baby.” She pulled Khali in for a hug and kissed her on top of the head. “Hey, baby boy.”
“Hey, Ma.”
“Can you bring some flour when you come over to the house later? I don’t feel like stopping by the store just to pick up flour.”
“Daddy is staying at church with us today,” Khali made known, and Ma cocked her head.
“Is that so?”
“Yeah. It’s no big deal.” In her eyes, it was. She’d been pulling out all the stops to try and get me in there, and I wasn’t having it.
“What made you change your mind?” I felt arms wrapped ’round me from behind. Remedi’s head poked out, and Ma pursed her lips. “You don’t even have to answer that question.”
“Hey, Mrs. Redwick.”
“Baby, at this point, you can call me Ma. Come on, Khali.” Taking Khali by the hand, she led her into the church.
“How you feeling?” I asked Remedi as we entered behind them.
“I’m okay,” was all she offered.
We found a seat on the pew next to Ma and nem.
Remedi sat there with her head resting against my shoulder.
Bobbi and her parents came in and stopped in front of us.
Bobbi stood there with her arms folded over her chest. I noticed she rolled her eyes when her mama spoke to mine.
It’s crazy how she was that in her feelings ’bout a grown ass man that she had no business lusting over.
If I had seen the shit sooner, I would’ve been gotten rid of her ass.
They took their seats, and the service began. Remedi nestled closer to me, and her hand rested on my thigh. I’on know why she put it there, knowing that any lil touch turned me the fuck on.
She rubbed my inner thigh and moved her hand toward my hard dick. I don’t know what got into her, but she was fucking with my focus in here.
“I’m going to the bathroom,” she whispered and got up from the pew. I waited a good two minutes before getting up and going behind her. I’on know why, but that’s what my first mind told me to do.
I reached the bathroom door and knocked on it. Remedi pulled it open and gripped me by the collar of my shirt, and then pulled me inside. Shutting the door, she pressed my back against it. The bathroom ain’t that fucking big. It got two stalls in here and one sink.
“In the church, Remedi?” Her eyes bored into mine.
“Don’t tell me you’re scared.”
Now she is really testing me, and I have to show her that I’m nothing to play with.
Gripping her underneath the arms, I set her on the counter.
My fingertips glided over her thighs and lifted her dress.
Pushing her panties to the side, I unzipped my pants and whipped out my dick.
Her juices crept up my nostrils. The scent was so strong, had we not just had sex the other day, I’d think she was ovulating.
I glided my dick up and down her slits. Her nectar clung to me, leaving a trail from her pussy to my dick.
“What are you waiting for?” she asked before I could slip my dick inside her.
Grabbing her by the waist, I eased her down on my dick, and her eyes closed as her head tilted back.
“Don’t ever think I’m scared of anything.” I slammed her down on my dick, and she moaned out. “Take that shit back.”
“I’m sorry. You’re not scared,” she said as I bounced her on my dick. “Fuck, you’re not scared!”
“Why you cursing in the Lord’s house?” Her eyes popped open, and she frowned. Even her lips curled downward was sexy as fuck to me.
“We’re fucking in the Lord’s house and you’re worried about me cursing?”
“This shit turns you on, huh?” Her pussy was so got damn wet. I don’t know if it was the fact that people were feet away from us or that she was having sex at church; either way, I was basking in her wetness. “Keep cursing for me.”
“Fuck! Shit! Got damn!” She riddled off curse words as I thrust in her from underneath. “It’s coming!” Her head tilted back, and I sank my teeth into her neck. “It’s coming, Khalif! I’m cumming! Oh my God, I’m cumming!” she screamed at the top of her lungs.
“That’s it.” Her pussy started talking, letting me know that she’d creamed all over my dick. “Damn, I love when you coat my dick like that, babe.”
“Shit, it’s another one! What are you doing to me!” she shouted again, digging her nails into my forearm. I released my seeds inside her and planted her back on her feet.
She grabbed a paper towel, wet it, and cleaned herself up. I wiped myself off and shoved my dick back down into my pants. She went over to the door, eased it open, and then poked her head out.
“Come on,” she whispered over her shoulder as if it really mattered at this point, ’cause she was so fucking loud, I’m sure they heard us.
Taking me by the hand, she led me out of the church, and we sat in my truck ’til service was over. Dallas walked Khali outside, and I got out to open the door for her.
“Y’all sure disappeared. That was y’all we heard in the church, wasn’t it?” Dallas hit me with a devilish smirk. I opened the door for Khali, and she climbed up into the truck. “Y’all nasty. Ma gon’ break yo’ neck,” she teased as I shut the door.
“I’on know what you’re talking ’bout,” was the only thing I said before opening the passenger door for Remedi.
“Hey, Dallas,” Remedi spoke as she hopped out the truck.
“Mmhmm,” Dallas said and walked off.
“What was that about?”
“She say the whole church heard us.”
Remedi’s cheeks flushed. “I didn’t mean to be that loud.”
“They’ll be alright. You coming to Ma’s house for dinner?”
“I really don’t want to impose.”
“Please, Remedi,” Khali pleaded from the back seat. She was all in my business. I should’ve shut the door on her.
“Okay. I guess I can do that.”
“We’ll meet you there. Khali and I have to stop and get some flour.” I pecked her on the corner of the mouth, and she headed over to her truck.
Everyone sat around and enjoyed dinner. Remedi helped Ma make the food and clean the kitchen up as well afterward.
Khali has been sitting at Ma’s desk ever since she finished eating with the paper and color pencils she asked for while we were at the store getting flour.
I already knew what she was up to—drawing that picture for Remedi.
Khali has the purest heart ever. I just hope the world takes care of my baby. They really don’t deserve her.
Remedi laughed at something Ma said as she placed some of the plates into the cabinet.
Pops and I sat in the living room, waiting for them to get done in the kitchen.
Dallas had been left directly after she finished her food.
Said she had to go meet up with Reese somewhere.
Hopefully, they aren’t up to more bullshit with Creed ’cause they done started him and he don’t know how to stop.
He’s been calling me with shit that he’d been doing to torture Reese.
She hadn’t given up on it yet, which is surprising. She had balls. I can give her that.
“I’m glad that you’re finally getting back out there,” Pops spoke, drifting me back to reality. “I know it was hard losing Simone, but she would’ve wanted you happy, and it seems like Remedi does that for you.”
Yeah, she brings a spark back to my life. I haven’t been as angry anymore. Don’t get me wrong, I still think ’bout Simone every day, but it was getting easier to cope with her death.
“I guess I needed her.”
Remedi and Ma came into the living room out of the kitchen. Khali got up fro the desk and ran over to her. “Remedi, I made something for you.” She handed Remedi the piece of paper and from the moisture that filled her eyes, I know she appreciated it.
Remedi kneeled, tears streaking her cheeks as she pulled Khali in for an embrace.
“Now you can just look at her whenever you get sad.”
“Thank you so much.” She squeezed Khali a bit tighter and Khali’s body stiffened.
Remedi released Khali and straightened her posture. “Let’s go, baby girl. You have school in the morning.”
Khali went over and collected all of her coloring pencils and put ’em up. “Bye, Grandma. Bye, Grandpa.” She hugged her grandparents, and Remedi hugged ’em as well, before we left out the door. I opened the door for Khali on my truck and then walked Remedi to hers.
“I appreciate y’all more than you’ll ever know,” Remedi said as I held her driver’s door open for her.
“Get home safe and let me know when you get there.” Cupping her face, I meshed our lips. We kissed long and hard ’til I was breathless. We parted, and she got into her truck. I shut the door for her and headed back to mine.
“Daddy, I’m tired,” Khali said as I started the truck.
“When we get home, take a shower and get into bed.”
I backed out the driveway and went home.
Khali jumped out the truck and ran into the house to do as she was told, while I headed for the garage.
Inside, I had several moving boxes stacked up from when Simone died.
I was supposed to have placed her things in there, but I never did.
Tonight, I wanted to start working on that.
It’s time that I put her stuff away. I know she’s never coming back, and I’m finally at peace with that.
Grabbing one of the boxes, I went into the house and started gathering Simone’s things out of the bedroom. I got halfway through the box when Khali appeared in the doorway. “I was coming to say goodnight.”
Placing one of Simone’s t-shirts into the box, I stepped to Khali and kneeled in front of her. “I just want you to know that I’d never try to replace yo’ mama. She’ll always have a special place in my heart.”
“I know, Daddy. I like Remedi for you. I just want you to be happy.” Craning my arm ’round Khali’s neck, I pulled her into my frame.
