Getting up from the floor, I opened the door, and she ran out of my room and straight to the front door.
I opened the door for her and she jetted out into the yard.
She circled a spot before squatting to pee.
Standing on the porch, I sucked in the warm, dewy air.
It’s six in the morning and the sun is already up.
As I stood there with my eyes shut, I listened to the carless road, and a rooster crowed in the distance.
Birds chirped. These were the sort of sounds one couldn’t hear in the city.
The type of things people tend to take for granted.
The more I’ve been out here, the more I’m starting to like it.
It’s still kinda hard trying to adjust, but I think after a few more days, I should be fine.
Prada brushed against my lower leg, bringing me back from my thoughts.
Opening my eyes, I looked down and she stood there, wagging her tail at me.
“You ready to eat, girl?” I asked and opened the door.
Prada ran into the kitchen where her bowl sat next to the island.
Grabbing her bowl, I set it on the counter and removed her Wellness food and scooped it into her bowl.
Soon as I set her bowl back on the floor, she dove straight into her food.
I tread back to my bedroom to take a quick shower before I head to the farmers’ market.
Since this is my first time ever going, I wanted to get there early enough so that I could get exactly what I wanted and didn’t have to deal with a huge crowd of people.
I’ve been here for a few days and have yet to go into their grocery store.
I’m sure it’s nothing like the ones we have back at home, but I did want to go in there and see what they have.
The food I brought for Prada was only going to last for so long.
If they didn’t carry it in the store, I was just going to have to order some online.
After the incident last night with Reese and Carlos, I’m not sure when Reese took her ass to bed or even if she went at all.
The remainder of the night was quiet, so Carlos probably got gone.
I’m hoping he took his ass to the hospital.
Hopefully, he doesn’t end up telling them that Reese was the one who shot him, or else she’s going to be in big trouble.
I know with her being a criminal defense attorney, she’d be alright, but still, I wouldn’t want something like that following me around for the rest of my life.
Stripping out of my clothes, I turned on the shower and rotated the hot knob to the perfect temperature before climbing over into the tub.
One thing I did miss from back home was my bathroom.
The walk-in shower, heated floors, garden bathtub…
I’m not going to complain though. Reese’s guest bathroom isn’t that small; it just seems a bit old-fashioned.
After my shower, I stepped out the tub and wrapped my towel around my frame. Prada should be done eating by now, and I need to go and let her out the door again. I moved down the hallway toward the kitchen and found Prada lying on the floor at the side door with one of her yellow stuffed toys.
“I didn’t forget about you,” I told her and reached over her and opened the door. She jetted out, and I shut it behind her. Prada is trained extremely well, so I didn’t have to worry about her running off. Reese stayed on a nice piece of land, so she had plenty of space to run around.
Being at Reese’s house is much better than back home. We stayed in a penthouse. She didn’t have much space to run away and just be free. We had a pet area for them outside, but it’s nothing like having your own yard or anything.
When I got back to my bedroom, I found this white tennis skirt and paired it with my pink Lululemon jacket.
I brushed my hair back into a high ponytail and was good to go.
I didn’t bother to put any makeup on, just lined my lips with my favorite Fenty chocolate lip liner and put some lip gloss on.
My skin was glowing, and it’s only because of my new Korean skincare routine.
I’d found the holy grail with keeping my face chef’s kiss.
I sprayed myself with my YSL perfume, grabbed my Prada crossbody bag, and was out the door.
Prada’s ass was staying home. She ran straight into the house soon as the door opened.
I’m not going to lie, though I wanted more space for her to run around outside, that dog is bourgeois as hell.
One would think that she didn’t even like the outdoors.
Once I was outside, I noticed that Reese’s car wasn’t in the driveway.
There’s no telling when she left the house or where she’d gone unless she was heading to work.
I wanted to check in on her this morning and make sure that she was okay after the Carlos incident.
It’s extremely unfortunate that she’s going through infidelity in her relationship.
I knew what it felt like to be cheated on, and I also knew what it felt like to cheat on someone.
None of it is really a good feeling. Let’s be clear though, the only reason I’ve ever cheated in a relationship is because I was cheated on first. I’m not a cheater by nature type of girl.
I hated cheating, but at some point in my life, I figured that I would show people how it felt for the shoe to be on the other foot.
Sometimes it felt amazing to see a grown ass man’s chest cave in, but eventually, it got tiring playing mind games and going tit for tat.
All of that is behind me now. I’ve gotten to the place where I didn’t even give a man the chance to do right by me.
Relationships weren’t for love. Sure, I wanted to get married one day, but it damn sure wouldn’t be because I loved my partner.
I figured that I should go back to the old way of thinking.
Marriage should be looked at as an agreement—a business, so to speak.
You can’t survive off love, but you damn sure can survive off stability.
Whatever man I end up with needs to make more money than me, be a provider and a leader. He has to look good on paper.
Hitting the fob on my truck, I hopped inside and headed into town, where the farmers’ market is supposed to be.
Reese told me that it’s downtown near the church.
She said that they have some of the best fruit she’s ever tasted in her life here, and I wanted to see if she stood corrected.
Me and fruit get along extremely well—it’s my go-to snack. I just have to have some.
I turned onto Miller Lane downtown, and I saw the sign for the farmers’ market and followed the arrows.
They led me to a parking lot that had quite a few cars.
I don’t know why I thought that just because I got up this early to come, there wouldn’t be many people out.
It had slipped my mind how Reese told me that most of the people around here start their morning at four-thirty in the morning.
I’m not sure why they would be up that early, five or five thirty, sure, but four-thirty is insane.
Finally, I pulled into an empty parking space that’s on the grass.
There were a few cars parked over here, so I figured it was something they did all the time, and the people wouldn’t mind.
Opening the door, my feet touched the grass, and I climbed out.
I shut it behind me and gracefully strutted toward all the tents I saw peeking in the sky on the opposite side of the parking lot.
A couple of small kids ran across me, halting my steps.
My hands went up into the air, and my breath caught in my throat.
Had they been a couple seconds later, we’d all have crashed to the ground.
“Sorry ’bout that.” A woman beamed a smile at me as she ran behind the kids. They were shooting Nerf guns at each other as they ran away from her.
Adjusting my purse on my frame, I continued walking toward the tents.
The first one I saw was Meadow & Mill. They had jars and glasses sitting on the table.
An older black couple stood in the booth.
I figured they were a couple because I’d already peeped the wedding bands on both their fingers, and from the way the woman stared up at him and smiled every chance she got, let it be known that she’s happily in love with who she has.
It’s just magical to me whenever I can spot people like this out in public.
It gave me hope that there’s still genuine love out there in the cruel world. People be so insincere these days.
I stepped to their booth to see what they were selling. There were a couple boxes of wine behind them, so I figured they were selling it.
“Hey, can I help you?” the woman spoke up first.
“I’m just browsing,” I replied with a warm smile.
“Do you like wine?” She grabbed a bottle and a cup and proceeded to pour some into it.
“I enjoy some good wine.”
“This is homemade at our vineyard. I think you’ll like this one.” She handed me the cup, and I swished it around before placing it to my lips.
“Mhm. This is good.”
“You can buy a bottle for twenty dollars.”
“That’s not bad. I think I’ll take it.” Reaching into my purse, I pulled out my wallet.
I’m not the type of person to carry cash like that on me, but since coming here, I’ve noticed that I do need to keep something on me.
Removing the twenty, I handed it over to her.
“Do you know where I can find the best fruit at?”
“Aw, I think you’re looking for Redwick. He’s over there in the far-left corner of the market. You can’t miss him.”
