There was an underlying meaning to his words, but I didn’t push him on it. I wasn’t sure I wanted to know the details, sensing that the details had the power to shatter me before I could find my footing with Gage.

I paced the bedroom as I mentally ran through my schedule, knowing what I was going to do regardless of days off. “You know what, I’m owed some vacation days from work. I’ll come.”

“You will?” Andy sighed into the phone, relief evident.

“Yes.” This was right. I just knew it. “I will. If you think Gage needs me, I’ll be there.”

“If you text me your email address, I’ll work out our tour schedule versus flights and send you the info. All expenses are on Gaged. I appreciate you taking the time, the band appreciates it.”

An over the top schedule might be helping Gage keep his mind off things, but as I well knew, it didn’t help you come to terms with what was at the root of your issues. “Thank you, Andy.”

“I look forward to meeting you.”

Relief surged through me as I hung up the phone, making my hands shake. I would finally see Gage again. I had no idea what would happen when I got there, but I had to go. Being here, not able to help the one person who meant more to me in the world, was too much to bear.

So I would go.
