Page 6 of Rattler’s Revelation (Demon Dawgs MC: Las Vegas #6)
Rattler offers me his hand as the kids rush off to get ready for bed.
He leads me into a fantastic game room. A massive television is the first thing you see when you walk in.
Facing it is a comfy sofa along with two love seats.
Several bean bags in bright colors sit on the floor between the sofa and the television.
Rattler leads me to the sofa as I continue to take in the room.
In one corner is a large tent that is spacious enough for six adults to stretch out comfortably.
Pillows cover the floor along with several fluffy blankets.
In the opposite corner is a mock castle, complete with turrets.
Behind me is a table with chairs. Shelves containing games and toys line the three walls not taken over by the television.
It’s a dream room for kids. I can’t think of anything else they could add.
“This room is incredible,” I say as I kick off my shoes and lie with my back against the arm of the couch while Rattler settles on the opposite end. We’re close enough that I can feel his warmth.
He grins at me. “Puma created it.”
“For himself or the kids?” I ask, remembering how playful the giant man was with the kids.
Rattler chuckles. “Both. He’s always been a big kid, even before Elina and Mal arrived. Once they came into his life, though, he went crazy. He built this room and a massive playground outside.”
“There’s a playground?” I ask, then shake my head. “Of course, there’s a playground.”
Rattler chuckles. “He’s building a pool, too.”
“Every time I saw Puma at the casino, I found him intimidating. He was always so serious. Tonight, I’ve seen a new side of him. I think everyone working at the casino would be shocked to see the kids using him as a jungle gym.”
Rattler shrugs. “I don’t know why. Puma was a former basketball player. He used to play ball for a living. The kids bring out his playfulness. He loves all of them. Puma and the others know that the kids are our future.”
“True. So, what book will you be reading tonight?”
“That depends on who selects the book,” Rattler says with a soft smile.
“They each take turns. If it’s Elina's turn, we’ll get a story with a strong female lead.
Mal will choose something about sports. Slade loves superheroes, while Angel loves stories about princesses.
I don’t know what Colt likes yet; he’s the new guy and still trying to fit in. ”
We hear the kids before they come racing into the room. The boy I recognize as Colt is the one carrying a book. He shyly hands the book to Rattler, who takes it with a welcoming smile. Rattler makes a big deal of getting the kids settled in their bean bags as he examines the book.
“The Paper Bag Princess,” Rattler says with a grin. “Elizabeth was a beautiful princess…”
Rattler reads the book with a passion that has the children enthralled with the story.
He makes them laugh and scream. My admiration for him grows as he uses voices and sound effects to enhance the story.
I’m as enthralled as they are, but not because of the story, but because of the man reading it.
I give a little jolt when I realize how, only a few hours ago, I couldn’t see past his resemblance to the man who had tormented me for weeks, but now I can’t see any similarities between the two.
These bright, outgoing kids adore him. How could he not be a good guy?
When he finishes the story, the kids get up and hug him.
“Are you going to tuck us in?” Elina asks as she takes the book from him.
“What do you think?” Rattler says, reaching over to tickle the adorable little girl.
She dances out of his reach as she giggles while the other kids gang up on him and tickle him as he laughs while trying to defend himself.
They’re ridiculously cute. Rattler growls as he snags Angel and Elina into his arms and heads for the door.
The boys follow behind him, with me bringing up the rear.
Rattler wanders through the labyrinth of hallways before stopping at a door.
Opening it, he steps inside and drops Elina on a bed with a Wonder Woman comforter and then plops Angel down on a bed with a Frozen theme.
He lifts the covers for Angel to crawl under before he tucks her in with a kiss to her forehead.
He does the same for Elina. After wishing them goodnight, he takes Mal and Colt’s hands and leads them to the room next door.
He helps all three boys into their respective beds and tucks them in. Kissing each of them on the forehead.
When we exit the room, we find the prospect, Smooth, sitting in a chair positioned between the two rooms. “Watch over them,” Rattler orders as he offers the prospect a fist bump.
I raise my eyebrow in question. “That was my job before I got patched in. Puma always has a prospect watching over the kids.”
My respect for Puma and the club continues to grow.
“How about I tuck you into bed, too?” Rattler says as he offers me his hand.
I nod as I take his hand. “You know, I understand why Chill didn’t believe me when I first told her about fake Max.”
“It should never have happened,” says Chill as she approaches from behind.
I jump at her unexpected arrival, but Rattler squeezes my hand in support as we turn to face her.
“I’m sorry I didn’t listen to you,” Chill says. “It pisses me off to know that bastard was able to terrorize all of you. I’d like you to tell me everything you can remember about Walt and his actions in the casino.”
I sigh and rub my forehead as I try to organize my thoughts.
“Chill, can’t it wait until tomorrow? Bianca has had a rough day and could use a good night’s sleep,” Rattler says. I give him a grateful look before turning back to Chill.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean right now. Tomorrow is soon enough,” Chill says. “Besides, there is someone here to see you. Rafe’s nephew is in the common room. He said he brought you some of your things.”
Rattler thanks Chill before guiding me back to the common room.
I scan the space, but don’t see the cop.
Rattler leads me over to a table where a young man in jeans and a t-shirt sits waiting.
It’s then that I recognize him. “You look different without your uniform,” I say as Rattler pulls out a chair for me to sit.
He grins. “Am I hotter in or out of the uniform?”
Rattler draws my attention by making a noise. It’s something between a growl and a snort. Randy chuckles as Rattler pulls out the chair next to mine.
“Why are you here?” Rattler asks.
Randy gestures toward the suitcase between us. “I brought Bianca her things. The crime scene team finished at her apartment, so I packed everything on her list and brought it over.”
Rattler straightens. “Did they find anything useful?”
Randy shrugs. “We won’t know until they process everything they collected.
However, one of the techs told me he pulled several clear prints off the cardboard boxes.
It doesn’t mean they belong to the assholes we’re hunting, but we might get lucky.
They also found fingerprints on the items they packed.
I need to get your prints so we can eliminate them. ”
“Of course. Should I go to the police station?”
“No, I can take them now,” Randy says, taking out a device. Rattler shifts forward in his seat as I follow Randy’s instructions so he can process my fingerprints. “Thank you,” he says as he slips the device into his pocket.
“Now what?” I ask.
“They’ll eliminate your prints and run the others that they found.
If we find anyone with a record or without a good reason for being in your apartment, then we’ll pick them up and interrogate them.
This is Rafe’s case, and he’s focusing all his attention on it.
We’re running the other women to determine how many are missing. ”
“Brigit said they found twenty-seven potential victims,” I say.
“Yeah, that’s how many were on the list Rafe gave me.
Rafe’s trying to get more resources to help, but in the meantime, Puma has offered him assistance from the Demon Dawgs and the casino.
He’s angry that someone dared to go after his people.
I wouldn’t want to be on the receiving end of his wrath. ”
“I likely know most of the women who have gone missing,” I muse. “I told Rattler earlier that we tried to find two of my former coworkers when they didn’t show up for their last day of work. When a mutual friend went to the apartment they shared, the landlord said they had moved out.”
Randy shifts and pulls out a small notebook. “What are their names?”
“Emily Martin and Darcie Tomkin,” I say.
He writes down their names as he bobs his head. “Yeah, they are on the list. I’ll follow up with their landlord tomorrow.”
As Randy slips the notebook back into his pocket, a gorgeous woman approaches the table. She runs her hands over Rattler’s shoulders as she leans down to kiss his cheek. “Are you ready for your patch-in bang?”
When Rattler turns to her, my heart cracks.
Unable to watch them, I focus on the room.
Several women have joined the party, each of them wearing tight or revealing clothes.
At least none of them are naked. Each has wrapped herself around a club member.
This is more like what I had expected when Rattler suggested bringing me here.
However, much more tame than I had imagined.
I relax when I see that all the members with girlfriends seem to ignore the other women and focus only on their SO.
Puma has Alisa plastered to his side as his massive paw occasionally roams over her back to cup her ass, before returning to her hip.
Brigit has her arms around Wildcard’s neck while he has her hands on her hip as they sway to the music.
Avery sits on Dice’s lap as they chat with Chill, Hunter, Viper, and Rafe.
“Jasmine, you know the rules,” Rattler says, drawing my attention back to him. “No flirting with the guys if they’re with other women.”
Jasmine pouts as she takes me in. “I didn’t know you were together. With the way he’s looking at her, I assumed she was with him.”
Her words snap my attention to Randy, who winks at me. He chuckles when Rattler lets out a growl. Shaking his head, he leans forward to speak to me. “Are you staying here?”
“Of course she’s staying here,” Rattler snaps. “She can’t go back to her apartment. She’ll be safer here.” He glances at me as if to verify. I open my mouth and close it.
“I don’t want to go back to my apartment.”
“Good. That means you can take care of our girl.” Randy stands and clasps Rattler on the shoulder, squeezing it before striding out of the clubhouse. He waves to his uncle before exiting.
I stare at him until the door closes before turning to face Rattler. His face shows the same confusion I feel.
