"You don't know that," he responds, wiping his hand down his face, trying to catch his breath. "What if we go back, and he's there? I can't fuck you and then sit around like an idiot. I'm sorry. I want this to work, but only if it’s me and you. I won't be able to handle anything else."
My lip quivers, my heart twisting painfully. "I'm sorry," I say quietly, feeling an immense weight on my chest as I drop my face to my hands. "I'm so sorry."
"No," he sighs, sitting on the bed next to me, wrapping his arms around my shoulders and pulling me to him. "It's not your fault, baby. I just need to know you're fully into this, that's all. When Tobias is found and you still feel this way, maybe it’s best if we try then?"
I nod, crying into his chest with his hand rubbing up my back. My world is a rollercoaster at the moment, and I have no idea when I'll get off, but my babies deserve a happy ending.
Weneedit.
Chapter 45
Tobias
Where the fuck is she?
I check the cameras in her house, and she’s not there.
She’s not at work. Not at one of the stores she gets groceries from. Not walking in the fucking park with the dogs she shares with that fuckface Ewan.
I’m losing my goddamn mind. Someone has taken her–my fucking doctor.
And since the reporters have put it out everywhere, and Aria decided not to tell me, she vanished with my kids.
Twins.
Two of me.
Justin sits in the car beside me as we follow Gabriella. She’s on the phone, completely unaware I’m preparing rope to tie her wrists with while Justin comments on her ass.
Not that I’ll look.
“Who do you think she’s talking to? She ghosted me. What if she has someone else keeping her bed warm?”
I shrug. “Why do you care?”
He snaps his head in my direction. “You have me following the best friend of your baby mama, and you think you can ask me that? Why the fuck do you care if Aria has moved on?”
“She hasn’t,” I snap, seconds from strangling him. “Pull towards the sidewalk and get this over with.”
“I thought I should let you know, just in case she tells you. I stole Aria’s purse and emptied all her accounts. She also had some questionable videos on her phone, but I deleted them so you won’t get your cold little heart broken.”
My teeth grind to dust as I fist my hands. “Stop talking before I tie you up and throw you off a damn cliff.”
“Just thought you should know,” he mutters, following Gabriella as she turns into the park for the shortcut to their apartment.
Once we grab her, we have one more stop to make. My contact gave me more than enough information on Kaleb, Aria’s fling from years ago. He hurt her, so I’m going to hurt him.
The plan is slowly starting to work–I have a few things left to do, but my main focus right now is tracking Aria down while watching Justin cover Gabriella’s mouth with chloroform and drag her into the trunk.
Chapter 46
Aria
The drive home two days later is quiet. Ewan and I have kept our distance while touching and sleeping, but we can't seem to take our eyes off one another. It makes me feel like a kid, to be honest, having your crush so close to you, even talking to you, getting the flutters.
We weren’t supposed to leave yet, but we got anxious and decided it was best to take Jason to Ewan’s mom’s house and figure out our next steps. Plus, Gabriella hasn’t replied to me in over twenty-four hours, and no matter how many times I send a text to say it’s Aria using Ewan’s phone, I get no reply.
Jason is asleep in the back of the car, and Ewan has kept his attention on the road for the past three hours while I read reports emailed to me by Doctor Shique.
