“Yup.”
“All of it is my fault, and she was worried that she was going to be too much for me?” She rolled onto her back and out of my grip, eyes wide. “How can anyone be too much forme?I’mthe too much!”
“I don’t think you’re too much.”
“I know.” She held Bunny up high, cocking her head and staring at him. “Was… too much for Ace, though…” A wide smile split her lips for a moment as she sang the words. “Now he’s mine.”
Then the happiness crumpled, and she looked on the brink of crying again, her scent shifting from happy to distressed in an instant.
Oh… oh God.
I needed backup.
I got to my feet.
“Wait—where are you going?” she demanded.
“I have a meeting with Knox.”
“Ameeting?”
“Yup.” I checked an imaginary watch. “He’s always harassing me. It’s time to bug him back—but I’m not willing to give up my Omega time.”
“Oh great, I could come,” she said, tucking the pencil, eraser, and sketchbook into Bunny’s pouch. “I’mreallyfucking good at annoying Knox.”
She was after me in a second.
“Whatare you—?” Knox began as he saw me striding in, but cut off as Thistle poked her head out from behind me.
“Bored,” I said, crossing to the daybed next to his desk, and dropping down onto it. Thistle glanced around the room, then joined me, sliding onto my lap and plucking the sketchbook back out of Bunny.
Knox eyed me suspiciously, but when I started scrolling on my phone, he returned to his laptop. I could feel his eyes flick up occasionally, especially when Thistle snapped another pencil tip. Finally, she let out a rumble of a growl and demanded, “Why are all the pencilsweaktoday?”
My chuckle cut out beneath her glare.
“Come here, Doll,” Knox said.
She looked up at him, then side-eyed me, but I gave her ass a squeeze and nodded toward him.
To my surprise, that was enough to brighten her mood. She made her way over, glancing at his computer screen as she reached his chair.
“Callum just texted,” Knox said. “Bambi’s settling in.”
“That’s…good.” Her tone twisted the last word into a complete contradiction.
The Misfits had warned us that the moment Bambi was comfortable enough to nest, she should move into her own space. When trauma nesting was involved, Omegas could get tangled up in a way that might be impossible to untangle. By Thistle’s attitude, that web of hormonal complications might have already begun.
“Do you think she has enough pillows? I could bring her?—”
“She does.”
“Ineedto see her.”
“You know,” Knox said. “Misfits said they’d never seen an Omega nest so quickly after trauma like that. I think you had something to do with it. But now she needs to claim space of her own.”
Thistle glared at Bunny like he was responsible for the lack of Bambi.
“Give it a few days. Once she’s settled, you can visit all you want,” Knox said, placing his hands on her hips and tugging her a step toward him.
