Page 4 of Personal Foul
“I needed to lay down for a bit and get away from everyone.”
“In my room?”
“I knew you were at the bar, and it’s not like Liv or Mac’s rooms are safe. Don’t need them stumbling in and starting to fuck in front of me. That already happened once tonight.” His bicep is curled over his face and eyes, shielding them from the light in the room as he grumbles at me.
I’m curious but also don’t know that I want to ask about the last part.
“Well, I’m home now so my room is no longer safe. Time to go.”
“Why, you bring some guy home from the bar?” He pulls his arm back enough to peer at me from behind it. “’Cause I don’t see anyone.”
“No, but it’s my room and I don’t need you in it.”
“Can you cut me some fucking slack? I don’t want to go back down there. They’re all trying to tell me how it’s fine and it’s not a big deal and how it was still a phenomenal season. Like I fucking want to hear all of that.”
“So you mean they’re being nice to you? What fucking assholes.”
“I don’t consider it nice to bring up the biggest fuck up of my career, but sure if you want to paint it that way.”
“Get a grip, Easton.”
“Poor choice of words, Princess,” he fires back, sitting up slightly.
Oops. Not intended but I smirk a little at stumbling into another dig against him.
“Yeah. Would have been clever if it was on purpose though.”
“That kind of cruelty is beneath you.”
“This kind of wallowing is beneath you.”
“Youfuck up your career like this and tell me how you feel. When you accidentally set the bar on fire, you let me know.”
“Well, we almost did today, actually.”
“What?” He jolts again.
“Grease trap wasn’t properly cleaned. It’s been a fucking day. Hence why I don’t want company.”
“I don’t want company either.”
“Then get out of my room, Easton. It’s that simple.”
“I’m not company. Besides I’m too drunk to drive and the only place to go is downstairs.”
“Then go sleep in your car or see if Kenz will let you hide out in the library up here.”
“No thanks. Pretty comfortable here.”
“And where am I gonna sleep?”
He looks around at the bed like he’s judging it.
“It’s what? A queen? There’s plenty of room.”
“Easton… like I said. Get over yourself and go downstairs with your friends. They want to support you. You made one mistake. That’s not your whole career. It shouldn’t have been down to that play anyway.”
“It’ll be on every tape the scouts look at. Everyone who hears my name is gonna think of that drop.”
