Page 302 of On A Manhunt: Complete Series
MAC
All I could think about as we drove to Kincaids was that I was going to kill Dad. Except I needed him to take care of Andy, so he was no help if I killed him. Take Georgia with you, he’d said.
That was the last thing I needed to do.
Did I want to spend time with her? Fuck, yes.
Did I want it to involve more than kissing and groping in the laundry room? Abso-fucking-lutely.
But I needed some epic control to keep my hands off of her. Having her in my truck, only a foot away and her scent swirling all around? Dangerous.
I couldn’t touch her again. No way.
I’d tasted her. I wanted more.
But Andy looked at her as if she was a sparkly unicorn, in love with the idea of her being his mom. Hell, he might actually be half in love with her.
With him, she was all smiles and gentle looks. Wise words without being patronizing to a little kid. She knew just how to handle him to make him feel special, but not spoiled. She liked him and accepted every inch of his rambunctious, no-filter personality.
I couldn’t blame Andy for his moon eyes and eagerness. I thought she was a sparkly unicorn of a woman, too. Her ex cheating on her with another woman was insane. Stupid. And that made him a total fucking asshole.
The guy cheated on her. What red blooded male would stray from someone so insanely sexy as Georgia?
She was everything I wanted in a woman but never knew.
I was hot for her all the fucking time. It made it almost impossible to control my raging dick.
I had to linger in the laundry room folding towels for the thing to go down!
Not only that, she was leading me around by the balls on this fundraiser idea.
Because of that kitchen fire, I’d missed the chance to say fuck no to the idea.
Instead, the rest of the committee decided without me.
Now, I didn’t have a choice but to be Mr. January and I was sure she knew it.
She was subtle about it, her approach. A look and my dick was hard.
Ridiculous talk about nipples had me staring at hers across the kitchen.
With Andy and Dad present. A smile and the crew signed up to be in the calendar.
From what I heard, puppies and kittens were immediately offered.
Did anyone say no to her? Did anyone not fall under her spell?
I saw through it. Knew that sparkly unicorns like her weren’t real.
They were fantasy. While she was sitting in the truck beside me right now heading down Main toward Kincaids, she wasn’t staying in Hunter Valley.
She was temporary, flying her sparkly unicorn ass off into the sunset when the fundraiser work was complete.
Leaving me and my dick unsatisfied. Or well satisfied but alone.
Women left. They took your heart with them and Georgia was the perfect reminder of this. Out of all the women in my life who’d cut and run, at least she’d given advanced notice. I needed to be the smart one. Hell, the only one who didn’t fall under her spell.
A car came in the opposite direction, giving a little honk of the horn on the way by. I couldn’t tell who it was, but it was someone who knew me, and my truck, since it had a little light bar on top. Which was most people in town.
Georgia shifted in her seat. She’d grabbed a soft black coat and gloves from her apartment. Her hands were in her lap, holding a little purse that was the same blue as her sweater.
“You didn’t have to bring me,” she said.
While she didn’t mention being cold, I reached out and angled the vents her way. That coat was more decorative than insolating.
“It’s fine,” I replied, glancing in my rearview mirror.
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw her looking my way. “When a woman says it’s fine, it means anything but fine,” she countered. “I figured, after being in your laundry room, since I drive you fucking crazy that maybe it really isn’t fine.”
I slow and come to a stop at an intersection and look her way. I keep my hands on the steering wheel instead of grabbing the lapels of her coat and pulling her across the center console and onto my lap.
“To a guy, fine means fine.”
“And you drive me fucking crazy means yes, I’m thrilled to hang out with you?”
That sass was back. When she spoke about her dickhead ex over dinner, I saw her smile slip, her shoulders curl inward.
The asshole had hurt her. Diminished her and that was fucking wrong.
But the defeated look lasted only for a moment because suddenly she smiled and, well…
it was possible I’d been dazzled. I was impressed by how she could change her mood so quickly.
It seemed this woman, the one in my truck who was giving as good as I gave, was the real Georgia. And I fucking liked it.
Problem. Big fucking problem. She should come with an emergency siren. A warning label that said DO NOT KISS OR GROPE!
“I shouldn’t have kissed you. I shouldn’t have–” I lifted my hands off the steering wheel indicating cupping her tits. “I don’t want Andy to get any ideas.”
“Because he’s six and he shouldn’t be learning about feeling a woman up quite yet?”
I glowered. “Because he’s obsessed with finding a mom and has his sights set on you. I can’t do anything or get involved with a woman who’s not sticking around.”
Reaching up, she brushed a tendril of hair off her cheek and nodded. “I would never do anything to hurt him.” After a moment, she continued. “You’re right. I’m only here for the fundraiser. No kissing. No big hands on my breasts and playing with my nipples.”
Instantly, I remembered the feel of them. Their weight. The way her nipples had gotten hard as I ran my thumbs over them.
She hadn’t forced me to kiss her. Or touch her. I’d done it all on my own.
A car horn stirred me. I looked both ways, then crossed through the intersection.
“No kissing. Nothing about nipples,” I agreed through gritted teeth, although I wasn’t sure if I was talking to her or myself.
“Doing that, or not doing that, and I’ll make you less crazy?”
“Yes.” I ran a hand over my hair. Was I going to be able to not kiss her or get her pussy to ride on my thigh?
“No. Fuck, I don’t know. You’ve stirred up my house, my work, my–” I bit off the word dick at the end although I was positive she knew it.
No chance she missed how hard I was in the laundry room earlier when she was riding my thigh.
“You’re coming out with me because my father is acting like an old busybody. ”
I turned into the parking lot.
“You’re in the truck,” I continued. “We’re here. It’s happening. Theo James is Mav’s brother. He’s the local doctor and he helps out with fire trainings.”
“Still…” She pushed.
“I’m sure Mallory knows now you’re joining me and–”
“Mallory?”
“His girlfriend,” I explained. “She’s Miss Mornay to Andy.”
“She’s his teacher, right?”
I nodded. “Yeah. If Mallory knows you’re coming out, then Bridget knows. If Bridget knows, then–”
“Meaning?”
“I’m sure you won’t be the only woman there.”
