Page 87 of Nowhere to Hide
“Nothing. I just?—”
She stopped and dragged me back to her. “I can’t move this fast. Just wait.”I made a move to pick her up and she stilled my arms. “Stop.”
I glanced around but no one was paying us any mind. No one was watching us even if it felt like they were.
Her hand came up to cup my bearded cheek. “It’s safe.”
I stiffened, but didn’t push her hand away.
“Locke?”
I turned at the voice and cursed.”Bastian,” I growled.
Priscilla’s hand fell to her side. She stayed at my side though—small favors.
Sebastian Rothschild was on Nyx’s cybersecurity team, not that you’d know it to look at him. He wore a suit as easily as he breathed. His headful of curls was swept back against a face too pretty to be behind a screen for twenty hours a day. But he was also the top analyst when it came to data.
He saw patterns unlike anyone else.
“Leo thought you might need a little encouragement to come in. It’s been a long time, friend.”
“Not long enough.”
Bastian grinned and held a hand out to Priscilla. “Since he doesn’t remember manners. I’m Sebastian, my friends call me Bastian or Bas.”
“Priscilla Barlow.”
“I’ve been learning all about you, Miss Barlow. Happy to put a face to the name.”
Cilla looked up at me questioningly.
“We’ll check in by SAT. I want her back on the boat where I can keep her safe.”
“There’s no other safer place than the tower.”
I blew out a disgusted breath, but laid a hand on Cilla’s lower back. “Fine.”
Bastian grinned. “Nice to see your surliness has only worsened, Locke.” He glanced at Cilla. “I’m parked close so you can get off that leg.”
“Thanks.”
She was quiet as I helped her into the car. I had her shove over as I got in beside her.
“He lives.”
I sighed. “Hello Jackson.”
He met my gaze in the rearview mirror. “You look like shit.”
“Nice to see you too. Since when did you grow a man bun?”
Jackson Fox snickered. “Lot has changed since you’ve been gone, man.”
Bastian got in on the passenger seat and Jackson took off into downtown Boston. You could see The Kendrick Group tower from the harbor. It speared up into the skyline with jet black steel and smoky glass. Even at the height of traffic, it only took ten minutes to get to the building. Jackson waved his watchat the sensor and the gate opened to the lower parking garage where we kept the vehicles.
Well, where Kendrick did.
I wasn’t part of it anymore.
