“I’m letting us both off the hook. Neither one of us could have stopped that. And if it helps, it’s totally the wrong time of the month. I just finished my… you know… the other day.”
“Your period.”
She glared at me. “I was trying not to use that word with you.”
I huffed out a laugh. Now was not the time for modesty. “Hope’s Point doesn’t have the day-after pill, if we get rescued today, back to Anchorage tomorrow—”
“The pill is good for up to five days,” Olivia said.
“It’s called theday-after pill,” I pointed out.
“It’s supposed to be taken as soon as possible, but it’s effective up to five days. We’ve got time is all I’m saying.”
“Then we’ll get you to Anchorage as soon as possible.”
She swallowed and nodded her head but there was something in her eyes. Something that looked like sadness. As if by laying out what the smart choice was, I’d taken something from her.
“What?”
“What?” she asked with her eyes wide.
After a minute she started fidgeting.
“Olivia, talk to me.”
“It’s just that you said we were going to do it again—”
“Yeah, we are. I won’t come inside you again.”
“Oh.”
“I’ll come other places,” I said in a low voice. Because thinking about those other places made my dick twitch.
“I guess, then, I have to bring up the thing I didn’t want to really think about,” she said. She looked straight at the fire instead of at me when she did. “If you and Jenny are a couple—”
“We’re not.”
Now she was looking at me.
I shrugged. “We’re friends. That’s it. I figured you might have worked it out when I told you we weren’t fucking. Do I look like the sort of guy who is going to wait a month to fuck someone I wanted, who wanted me, too?”
Okay, I suppose I was that guy when it came to Olivia. But that’s because there had been obstacles. Obstacles that simply couldn’t hold up against passion.
“We didn’t do anything wrong, Liv. We’re here. It happened. It was good. I want to keep doing it. I’m pretty sure you do, too.”
Slowly, she nodded.
That made me smile. Olivia admitting that she wanted me. “Yeah, I thought so. Come here.”
“Where?”
I pushed back from the fire and spread my legs so she could fit between them. I patted my thigh. “You come sit here between my legs and I’ll feed you rabbit.”
“You’re going to feed it to me?”
“Yeah. I need you full of energy for round two.”
“Yes, but you don’t have to feed me, that’s silly.”
