“And now so do you.”
The airy dough melts on my tongue like a heavenly cloud sprinkled in rainbow and fairy dust. I moan an insatiable, “Mmm, mmm, mmm! That... is... amazing.”
“Told you.” His gaze falls, landing softly on my mouth as I sweep the sugar off my face. “You still have a little...” Cupping my cheek with his hand, he gently glides his thumb over my lip. He may just be wiping powdered sugar away but he takes my breath with it. I’m transfixed by the hungry look in his warm brown eyes and I’m dying to indulge. I think he is too.
I tilt my chin and part my lips, eager for him to dive in. Fireworks ignite overhead and I brace myself for one of those magical, movie-like moments. The kind that make the world stand still.
“Hey! Didn’t we just see you at The Wild Moon?” a man asks, the smell of liquor on his breath. Yanked from our moment, Nick and I turn his way and take in the group of friends surrounding him.
“Yeah, how’s it goin’?” Nick offers with a nod.
“That was a funny-ass show, man.” The intruder points to Nick, then looks at me. “You guys are cool.”
“Thanks a lot. Happy Fourth,” Nick says with a steady-hand wave. The man and his friends shout their drunken farewells and move along. I wait for Nick to say something, pick up where we left off. But he doesn’t. Now it’s up to me to grab him and tell him to stop being an idiot and kiss me. But I don’t. Our firework moment’s faded to black. And our Jerry-and-Elaine dynamic prevails. So I reach for another beignet and take a sugary bite.
So much for orgasmic experiences.
