“I kind of beat his ass with a textbook, shoved chocolates in his mouth, and ripped up his stupid flower. I also pushed him down to the floor and recorded a humiliating video of him. His nickname, the Virgin King, was then born,” I said.
“Oh!” Luna exclaimed.
“I fought fire with fire. Now, I’m in the middle of this feud with him. I don’t regret it, though—he deserved it. He tried to hire me like I was some hooker when he didn’t even know me. He completely disrespected me. He’s crazy,” I affirmed.
“How do we expose him?” Luna asked.
“I have an idea, but we’re going to have to stretch the truth of your story a bit. Would you be alright with that?”
“Whatever you want to do. Let’s make him suffer,” Luna smirked.
Admittedly, I was thinking selfishly when I contacted Luna.
I wanted a credible story where Jacob was acting like a complete creep.
I knew I could then manipulate the truth and throw in some additional elements in there to torment him.
I knew it wasn’t the best way to handle things, but I didn’t care.
He clearly wanted the Terror Twins to hurt me. I had no problem hurting him back.
Once I parted ways with Luna, I walked to Central Lake Plaza to wait for my ride. I then got an ominous message from an anonymous social media account named angel66 .
“ I know what you are—what you really are, Heather—a complete and utter monster .”
I read it in complete disbelief at first. I didn’t know why anyone would go out of their way to create an anonymous account to call me a monster, but I snapped back to reality. There could have been many, many online trolls who would have done something like that.
“I saw your nude pictures. You don’t look as good as I thought you would.”
At that point, I figured it was definitely an online troll, or it could have easily been Jacob or one of his stupid friends.
“Don’t worry. You’ll be exposed soon. You and one other. Your lives are about to change for the worse. I’ve never stopped hating you, Heather Chang.”
This sent a slight shiver down my spine. The way they typed my full name severely irked me. It didn’t feel like it was a troll anymore. I knew there were many people who probably had a bone to pick with me, but I didn’t think anyone truly hated me except for Jacob. I was wrong.
“You’re the most melodramatic weirdo I’ve ever seen. Get a life,” I replied back.
They didn’t reply back that day. I wanted to ask them who they were, but I knew I wouldn’t get a response.
I watched the boys’ basketball team play in the gym.
The game didn’t interest me much, but I saw for the first time how competitive they became with one another—it was a full-contact, very sweaty sport, and Frankie was the most energetic one of them all.
I found out that day why he was a star and why Newman loved him so much—he nearly made every shot he took and easily outplayed his teammates—it was like he floated in the air.
Eddy played relatively well for his role, and I saw a side to him I never did before.
He yelled, he cussed, and if he felt he was fouled, he fought for that call. I liked this side of him.
I waited for them to finish because Eddy texted me that he wanted to tell me something. I was waiting for him to make a move, and he finally did, surprisingly. He didn’t seem like the type to go after someone. Frankie was the exact opposite. I figured his confidence had rubbed off on Eddy.
When their practice ended, Eddy and Frankie came over. I smiled at Eddy, but he barely looked at me. I could tell he was nervous. Frankie noticed this and quickly spoke to break the awkward silence. He whipped out his phone and asked Eddy if he had seen the video Luna had made. He shook his head.
“Check this out, bro. This is funny,” Frankie commented.
“This is Luna Rivas, right?” Eddy asked.
“Yeah, she almost got fondled by Jacob,” I commented.
“You’re kidding,” Eddy replied.
“I wish I were,” I added.
Frankie played the video. Luna’s face showed up on the screen while she was walking outside. It had the caption “Exposing Jacob Boruta.”
“Hey, guys, just wanted to let you all know that Jacob Boruta is an absolute scumbag. On Valentine’s Day, he tried to get me to blow him.
When I said no, he kept insisting. Can you believe that?
He was also being touchy, and it made me feel uncomfortable.
When I finally left, he started calling me all sorts of names, and I never did anything to the guy.
Oh, and he sent me a dick pic. Unfortunately, I deleted it, but he had sent me something that didn’t even look like a penis—it was more like a fat, mangled one-inch-long sausage.
Be careful, ladies, because the Virgin King is on a horny rampage,” Luna warned.
Frankie stopped the video and started laughing. I smiled while Eddy looked uneasy.
“Yo, that’s hilarious. Not the stuff at the beginning, obviously, but what she said about his penis. That was gold,” Frankie chuckled.
“Yeah, a mangled chode. That’s, uh, very interesting,” Eddy pointed out.
“I personally don’t think he has anything there. It’s probably a flat piece of skin, dangling in the wind,” I said, in a mocking tone.
“So, Jacob sent her a dick pic? I wouldn’t put it past him, but holy smokes. He is a menace!” Eddy exclaimed.
“No, he didn’t send her that. We changed up her story a bit. We wanted people to pay attention to what type of person he is,” I explained.
“You guys lied about all that?” Eddy asked.
“Not everything. He did try to get her to sleep with him. He suggested it. He did the same thing to me,” I explained.
Eddy was about to say something, but was interrupted by Frankie, who yelled out of nowhere.
“Whoa, whoa, whoa. People are calling him a lowkey pervert. They’re roasting him,” Frankie interjected.
“Good. I hope a representative from Bright Rock sees it and bans him from entering the place. He doesn’t deserve to go to college. He’ll just do the same thing to the other girls,” I assured them.
Eddy leaned over and saw Frankie’s phone. His eyebrows rose, and he then looked at the floor, deep in thought.
“I just got a text from Porter. Apparently, some of the cheerleaders started throwing rocks at him outside. Damn!” Frankie exclaimed.
“Oh, now they decide to do something. Well, of course, because it’s Luna Rivas. They think she’s cool, but they think I’m a rage beast,” I said resentfully.
“I think they’ll change their mind about you. Can’t Vivian talk to them?” Eddy asked.
“She has, but they don’t listen to her since she’s not on the squad anymore,” I explained.
“Oh,” Eddy muttered.
It seemed like something was on his mind, but he wouldn’t spill the beans.
“Well, today has been a great day. I hit all my threes in practice, Jacob is getting jumped, and my party is this weekend,” Frankie announced.
Frankie slightly nudged Eddy, who reacted with a smile and glanced at me.
“You’re having a party without me?” I asked.
“Of course not. You and Vivian are both invited,” Frankie affirmed.
“I was gonna ask you something, Heather,” Eddy added.
“Yes?”
“Uh…would you like to go with me? I know that we’d probably be together anyway since we’re friends now.
Well, I’d like to think we’re friends. Anyways, I just wanted to ask you that.
So, we can be together. There’s gonna be a lot of people there, and I wanted to make sure we saw each other.
Does that make sense?” Eddy asked nervously.
Frankie and I gave him a puzzled look.
“No, not really. I think I understand what you meant, though. My answer is yes,” I affirmed.
“Oh, okay. Cool, cool. I’ll see you then. I gotta go,” Eddy replied happily.
He scurried off before I was able to say anything else. Frankie chuckled.
“He’s an awkward guy, Heather.”
“Trust me, I know that by now.”
“He likes you, for sure. He just doesn’t know how to express that properly,” Frankie explained.
“I can help him out with that,” I assured.
“I bet you can. He had some trouble with another girl last year. I don’t know if he told you.”
“What girl was it?” I asked.
Frankie awkwardly rubbed his neck and looked away. He obviously regretted bringing this up.
“Look, whatever happened with her is his business, but it was this girl named India or Indira or something, I think,” Frankie said, uneasy.
“Oh, yeah, I knew her. She kind of disappeared last year. Eddy told me she helped him study a few times—that’s all,” I explained.
“Oh, alright. Yeah, it was probably just that then. Honestly, my friends tell me so much stuff, I mix up names all the time. Anyway, I know he messed up with some girl, and she ended up ghosting him. He doesn’t want that to happen again,” Frankie explained.
“He shouldn’t have to worry about that. I won’t ghost him unless he does something stupid. I don’t think he will. He’s a good guy,” I admitted.
“He really is. He’s better than me,” Frankie admitted.
Frankie nodded and gave me a peace sign as he walked to the boys’ locker room.
As I walked out of the gym, I thought about what he mentioned about Eddy and this girl.
I highly doubted that he mixed up the names.
I knew the type of guy Frankie was. He was the captain and star of the basketball team.
He knew many faces, and many faces knew him, especially if it was a pretty brunette at Brightwood High.
Despite this, I decided to give him the benefit of the doubt. He helped me get payback against Jacob and got most of the basketball players on my side. He also texted me after my fight with the Terror Twins. He talked to them for me and assured me that nothing like that would ever happen again.
He didn’t have to do things like that, but I supposed that since Eddy and I were about to be a “thing,” he felt the need to put me under his protection. I felt like I was able to handle myself in most situations, but I won’t lie, the things he did for me were definitely appreciated.
I was still suspicious, though. A guy like that definitely had skeletons in his closet.
