Page 20 of My Rules for Revenge (Twisted YA Mysteries #1)
Angelica tried grabbing me and slamming me in front of her, but I held on for dear life as the bell finally rang.
A roaring group of students flooded in and chanted Super Star, Super Star, Super Star, Super Star as they surrounded us.
When I glanced left, I saw another towering figure pushing her way through the crowd and towards us.
Erica Johansson. An exact replica of Angelica, except she had braided hair.
They were practically superhuman clones.
I wasn’t able to do much when Erica peeled me off and threw me to the ground as I screamed.
I kicked my legs out as they tried to grab me with their massive, tentacle-like arms. When I managed to get back up, I threw myself at both of them and head-butted both of their chests.
They staggered back and appeared to grow even taller.
I wanted to jump on both of them to continue fighting, but Eddy and Vivian held me back as a few teachers ran in to break up the fight.
I was kind of happy they prevented me from going back into the “wrestling ring”—I probably would have perished if I continued to tussle with the two hulking giants.
After the chaos dissipated, the assistant principal, Jane Woods, grabbed Angelica, Erica, and me. She dragged us to the principal’s office while we all angrily protested.
All three of us sat in Principal Newman’s office with scowls on our faces.
We all had Band-Aids on our scratches and cuts.
I massaged a nasty bruise I got on my left leg.
We looked like we had just gotten back from a war-torn battlefield.
He occasionally glanced at us while he filled out paperwork, a school incident report of what occurred.
Once he was done, he mumbled as he quietly read it.
“We have volleyball practice soon,” Angelica commented.
“Can we leave?” Erica asked.
It was like they had one singular mind.
“No, you may not,” Newman annoyedly replied.
“You saw the posts already; you know what she said about me,” Angelica said.
“You mean the things I did not say. It was Jacob Boruta who faked those posts and tried to cause beef between us. Obviously, it worked,” I said with irritation in my voice.
“Who the hell is Jacob Boruta?” Angelica asked.
“He’s the guy that leaked my nudes,” I replied.
Angelica raised her eyebrows and stayed silent.
“I saw the posts. Angelica, I completely understand your anger and frustration, but you cannot lash out like that on school grounds. Violence and fighting are strictly prohibited on campus. You have put yourself and your sister at risk for suspension, which means you wouldn’t be able to play for a considerable amount of time,” Newman explained.
Angelica slapped her leg in anger, and Erica stood up.
“That’s not fair. I was only trying to end the fight, and my sister had a good reason. She was defending herself,” Erica said.
“Do you know how many times we’ve been bullied by students who go to this school? All the disgusting insults that people have called us on social media and in the halls,” Angelica said.
“No matter what you think, I didn’t contribute to that. I know the type of person that I can be, but I’m not an idiot. Why in the world would I want to pick a fight with you two? What reason could I possibly have?” I asked.
“You like starting fights for one, so either that or you’re mad because they keep trashing your little book club room,” Erica pointed out.
“What does that have to do with anything?” I asked.
“Hey, hey, hey. Erica, chill,” Angelica replied.
I looked at her in surprise.
“What?” Erica asked.
“Maybe it wasn’t her, alright? She hangs out with the basketball team, but that doesn’t mean she’s one of them,” Angelica said.
“Birds of a feather flock together. Remember how you used to say that?” Erica asked.
“It still doesn’t make sense why Heather would only direct her post at me. Those idiots used to go after both of us at the same time,” Angelica said.
“I don’t know,” Erica replied.
“Alright, alright. Enough. Erica, sit back down, please,” Newman ordered.
Erica hesitantly obeyed. Principal Newman sighed and clasped his hands together.
“Alright, look, I don’t want to suspend anyone.
The Johanssons have big district games coming up, and the playoffs are on the horizon.
You two also don’t get in much trouble…inside of school, anyway.
I’ve heard rumors about fighting at the Central Lake Plaza, but I’m not going to get involved in that,” Newman said.
I scoffed.
“So, you’re letting them off the hook because they’re volleyball stars? Seriously?” I asked.
“They’re not the only ones off the hook. Listen, Heather, I know you’ve had rough times in the past with bullying. You’re a great student, and you run the book club, which helps the Ivy League-bound students,” Newman said.
“Wait, I’m not getting in trouble?” I asked.
“We’re free to go?” Angelica and Erica asked simultaneously.
“First off, I don’t want any more fighting from any of you. Secondly, you all still have detention for a month.”
We collectively groaned but nodded. I understood that we all had gotten off relatively scot-free. I’m certain the Terror Twins realized that as well.
We left his office and quietly went our separate ways. I still couldn’t believe that we hadn’t gotten suspended. It didn’t make much sense until I realized that if he let the twins go and not me, it would have looked very suspicious on his part. It would have been blatant favoritism.
I knew he didn’t care about the book club because he never provided me with the supplies to clean it or bothered to change the old doorknob.
The lock of that doorknob was easily picked, so it was no surprise that no one had wanted that room, so I ended up having to buy a new lock myself, but that one was stolen.
That was yet another incident when the book club room was broken into and vandalized.
As strange as it sounded, I should've thanked the twins. If it weren’t for them, I definitely would have gotten suspended for a month.
When I got to my science class and sat down, everyone stared at me like a herd of deer.
My science teacher quickly snapped at them, and the lesson was resumed.
My mind was on the fight and on the bullshit office politics that Principal Newman employed.
That was until I saw Manny walk by in the hallway.
He made me remember what had started the cage match I had with the twins in the first place.
After I texted Vivian and Eddy to reassure them that I was alright, I hatched an idea.
I began direct messaging almost every girl in school.
I knew I couldn’t be the only one. There had to be a few others who experienced what I had experienced.
Maybe not the leaked nudes, but maybe what had happened between Jacob and me inside the book club room.
After detention, I checked my phone and saw that I had a few missed calls from my mom. I ignored them as I made my way to the bleachers near the P.E. field to meet with Luna.
The sun was setting, and I saw she was already waiting for me.
I went up the steps and sat next to her.
She had thick, curly brown hair with streaks of gold in it.
Her hazel eyes glowed in the fading sunlight, so it was no surprise that Jacob tried to go after her since she was very pretty and way out of his league.
To be honest, not even a malformed mutant was in Jacob’s league.
“Hey, Luna. Thank you so much for meeting me,” I said with gratitude.
“Yeah, of course. Am I really the only one who responded?” Luna asked.
“Yep. I’ve been messaging every girl in this school who might have had a bad experience with Jacob, but no one wants to talk. Of course, I get it. It’s not easy. Most of them want to forget about it,” I remarked.
“I know I wanted to forget about it. I wasn’t going to reply to you if I’m being honest, but I changed my mind. I know that he leaked your nudes. I was so angry for you when that happened. I’m sorry I never said anything.”
“Don’t worry about it. I get it,” I replied.
“I wish I had, though. Ugh, he’s so weird. Like, I don’t think he’s a rapist or anything, but he’s just really touchy and forward. He made me so uncomfortable,” Luna revealed.
“You know, he tried to pay me to have sex with him. He’s pathetic,” I mentioned.
“That’s so creepy. How can a guy be so horny?”
“That’s exactly what I said. He’s incomprehensible,” I remarked.
“So…should I tell you what happened?” Luna asked.
I nodded.
“Well, he was very forward when I went to give him a PC support ticket to help out Miss Leslie. He had been messaging me constantly on social media, trying to get my attention with thirsty memes and kissy stickers, which kind of made me want to vomit,” Luna said in disgust.
“I would have projectile vomited directly at him,” I replied.
“He then gave me a sunflower for Valentine’s Day and insinuated that I wanted to have sex with him. He kind of touched my arms when he said that, and I was shocked. I’ve had guys hit on me before, but never like that. He had zero boundaries!” Luna exclaimed.
“That sounds exactly like him. Wait, he also tried to give me a sunflower for Valentine’s Day. Do you think he recycled it?” I asked.
“Oh my god. He did.”
“So, you rejected his stupid flower, and then he had the balls to try it with another girl the same day? He’s demented,” I asserted.
“How many other girls do you think he’s done this with?”
“Too many,” I said with certainty.
“Sorry if this sounds insensitive, but how come he’s never tried leaking anyone else’s nudes before? Why didn’t he do anything to me? Why you?” Luna asked.
“Luna, I think you know by now the kind of person I am.”
“You don’t take shit from anyone. I’ve noticed,” Luna pointed out.
