I frowned. “I want us to be a family. I’ve told you that.”
He nodded. “I guess you have.”
“You’re the one who’s being cagey about your feelings.”
“Then I need to be more open, I guess.” He gave an uneasy laugh. “That isn’t simple. Especially considering how you and I have always loathed each other.”
“I don’t loath you,” I said softly.
His eyes were heated. “Yeah, I don’t loath you either.”
“I guess that’s something.”
He bit his lip, and he pressed closer. He ran his hand up my chest, and my skin prickled with excitement. “I’m definitely… falling for you.” He grimaced. “That sounds cheesy, but I think about you all the time. On this trip with Riley, I finally accepted that I hated being away from you.”
“Tell me more.” My heart felt ready to burst as I waited to hear what he had to say. I wound my arms around his narrow hips and pulled him closer.
He smiled shyly. “I don’t know how.”
I kissed the tip of his nose. “Tell me why I’m perfect for you.”
He smirked. “You first.”
“No problem.” My heart beat swiftly as I kissed him softly, our tongues tangling. When I lifted my head, I said, “You’re one of the bravest, most loyal, smartest men I’ve ever known. I love your taste, your scent. And I especially love your laugh. I didn’t hear it much until recently, but now I can’t live without it. It melts my heart.”
“That’s romantic.”
“I’m a romantic guy. Have you forgotten the bubble bath?”
He shook his head, and his cheeks tinted pink. “Hardly.”
“I want—no—I need to take care of you. We’re having a baby together, and I can’t think of anything that matters to me more than you and our child.”
“Shit, you’re really good at this.”
I laughed. “I’ve been waiting a long time to say this to you.”
His eyes were dark blue with emotion. “I’ve never had anyone make me feel like you do. I’m not weak or needy, but sometimes all I want to do is curl up next to you and let you take care of me.”
“You should.”
“I… I want a life with you. I want a family.” He frowned. “I feel excited and foolish at the same time.”
“Why foolish?”
He sighed. “Because I’ve never had anybody. Not really. I don’t know how to be a family, but I want it. I want that with you.”
I groaned and pulled him closer, pushing my face into his warm neck and inhaling his familiar scent. “I want that too.” I nibbled his throat. “I want to protect you and love you. I want you to have more of my babies.”
He laughed. “Shit. Let’s see if I can handle this one.”
I chuckled. “Deal.” I rubbed my hand over his stomach, noticing just a hint of a bump. “You’re starting to show a little.”
He frowned. “Yeah, I had trouble buttoning my jeans today.”
I unhooked his pants and slipped my hand over his abdomen, loving the small bulge. “That’s our baby.”
He sighed and rested his head on my chest. “God, when you say that it makes me feel weak in the knees.”
