“I need to check on Lottie.”

Lainey’s voice was muffled against my chest, and her breath warm as it skimmed my skin.

I pressed a kiss to her neck. “She’s probably not even awake yet.”

“It’s after nine, Duane,” she said as she glanced toward the bedside clock. “We need to get out of bed.”

“You got some plans I don’t know about?” I teased, trailing my fingers lazily down her arm.

She responded by pressing a kiss to my chest and then rolling away from me. Her warmth vanished under the sheets.

“I don’t want my daughter to find us in bed,” she said as she slid off the mattress. “Not twelve hours after finding out about you. I’m trying to avoid giving her childhood trauma.”

I smirked and propped myself up on an elbow as she disappeared into the bathroom.

When the door opened again, she stood there in the doorway in nothing but a T-shirt, hair a little messy, skin still kissed by sleep.

“Do you have plans for today?” she asked, her voice casual, but her eyes were anything but.

I shook my head and took her in like I hadn’t spent the whole night holding her. “Just being with you is good with me.”

“We’re doing this.”

It wasn’t a question.

“Well, yeah.”

“And Lottie knows.”

“Uh, yes, babe.” I sat up fully. “These aren’t questions, are they?”

She nodded slowly. “Just saying it out loud. I think it’s better if we do.”

“I’ll agree with that,” I said, my voice softer now.

She turned to head back into the bathroom but then paused, spinning back toward me. “Did you actually have plans for us today?”

I shrugged. “Not really. Thought you could meet everyone—under better circumstances than last night.”

She laughed and crossed her arms. “You don’t think Yarder got the best of me last night?”

“I think Yarder understands you were under a hell of a lot of stress,” I said, sliding out of bed and moving toward her.

I wrapped my arms around her waist, pulled her close, and kissed her. Soft and slow, the kind of kiss that said I’m here, even without words. Her hands found my shoulders, and she melted against me for a second.

“That probably wasn’t me putting my best foot forward with your Prez.”

I chuckled against her lips. “I just kissed you, and that’s the first thing you say?”

She gave me a playful smack on the shoulder. “I’m thinking about you , idiot. What if he’s mad?”

“You have nothing to worry about. Yarder was probably impressed. Not many people stand up to him.”

“Right,” she drawled. “I’ll just avoid him for a couple of days and hope he forgets.”

“Whatever works for you, babe.”

She kissed me again—short this time—and then pulled back with a glint in her eye.

“Wanna take a shower with me?”

I raised a brow. “I thought you were worried about checking on Lottie.”

“I’m sure she’s still sleeping,” she said with a wicked smile and grabbed my hand. “And we’ll be quick.”

She pulled her shirt over her head, tossed it in my face, and leaned into the shower to turn the water on. The steam was already starting to curl in the air.

“That is if you think you can keep up,” she teased and stepped into the spray.

My mouth went dry watching her rub her hands up and down her body, her eyes locked on mine through the mist.

“You’re not playing fair, babe.”

She cupped her breasts and smirked. “Who said I’m playing?”

That was it.

I stepped out of my boxers and climbed in after her.

My hands found her waist, then slid up over her slick skin. She shivered at my touch, and I pulled her closer. The water cascaded around us, and I kissed her—deep, slow, savoring every second of her warmth under my hands.

Her fingers tangled in my hair. She tilted her head back as my lips moved down the column of her throat and across her collarbone. She gasped as my mouth closed around one nipple, while her hands caressed my back, exploring.

My breath caught as I raised my head, and her hand snaked around the front as she reached lower. Her hand wrapped around my cock.

“I need you, Lainey,” I groaned.

She looked up at me through half-lidded eyes, and her voice was a whisper against the sound of water. “Yeah? How bad?”

I didn’t answer.

I simply grabbed her hand, moved it to the side, and backed her against the tiled wall. Her legs wrapped around my waist as naturally as breathing, and her arms went around my neck as I pressed closer. My cock easily slid into her pussy, and once again it felt like coming home.

Her forehead touched mine, and her breath was shaky.

“Duane…” she whispered.

The sound of my name on her lips lit something in me—something raw and aching.

“I love it when you say my name,” I murmured.

“Duane.”

Her voice trembled, and her nails dug gently into my shoulders.

“You need to get there, babe,” I said between kisses. “Because I’m not gonna last.”

She reached down between us, touching herself, and my eyes almost rolled back in my head.

“Jesus, Lainey…”

Her movements quickened, her breath ragged, her lips parted.

I held her tighter, her legs locked around me, her body moving with mine.

Every sound she made spurred me on—the little moans, the whimpers, the way she kept whispering my name like it was the only word she remembered.

“Duane—” she gasped, her rhythm speeding up. “I’m close—”

“Come for me, babe.”

And she did. I followed right behind her.

I held her through it, kissing her jaw. Along her temple and to her lips, until her body stilled and all that was left was the sound of the water and our ragged breaths.

We stayed like that, forehead to forehead, just breathing.

I brushed wet hair out of her face and kissed her gently. Slower this time.

“That’s one way to start the morning,” I murmured against her mouth.

She pressed her lips to my neck and smiled against my skin. “I do like a routine.”

“Babe,” I said with a smirk, “you have no idea how on board I am with that plan. Shower sex every morning? Sign me up.”

She laughed, warm and full.

We finished the shower slower, lathering each other up, and rinsed away the suds. She handed me a towel with a smile, and we stepped out, dripping, content, and a little breathless.

Whatever today held, it started with her.

And that already made it a damn good day.
