Chapter Six
Vivienne
The real reason behind us staying in Cali for a few days was so the contractors could finish the loft reno.
They were nearly done but wanted a couple more days to set up the furniture for me.
I really scored using the same company that had done renovations at Blush over the years.
Hell, they were the ones who originally built out the loft to begin with.
“Now,” I wrapped my arms around her waist and stood behind her, taking in the view. “We have a few options for food. We can either dine in the restaurant downstairs or walk down the boardwalk where there are far too many food choices. Or order room service and eat on the balcony.”
“I hate the idea of spending all our time indoors. How long are we here for? Will there be time to play tourist?”
“Absolutely. Right now, we have four days of surf and sand, but if we need more that can be arranged.” Darcy tilted her head to the side, deep in thought. I took advantage of her perfect pose, nibbling along her jaw and down her neck.
“Mmm, Mommy. You make it hard to think when you do that.”
“Do I now?” As much as I’d love to strip my beautiful girl down and cherish every inch of her body, she needed food and rest more. “Dinner, my love?”
“Let’s order in, if that’s okay?”
“Of course it is,” I pressed my lips to her neck again, triggering an idea. “Princess, would you do something for mommy and I don’t mean tonight?”
“Anything for you.”
This girl owned every inch of me. “Next time you wear lipstick would you press those perfect lips to a piece of paper for me please.”
She glanced up at me like I’d lost my mind. Maybe I had, but the end result would make sense and I’d always carry a piece of my princess with me. “Yes?”
I smiled. “That’s my good girl. Mommy’s gonna order our food while you relax.”
Her long blonde locks blew in the breeze.
Those beautiful blue eyes conveyed a love that ran deep and rendered me breathless.
Darcy’s trust and faith in me meant everything.
The choice to come get her was quite possibly rash, but the second she’d relaxed in my arms in Armando’s cabin assured me I’d chosen correctly.
She needed me, but little did she know I needed her just as much.
While we waited for the food, I unpacked her luggage, tucked the suitcases in the closet, then placed her stuffies on the bed. Her backpack with all her toys, I sat on the couch where’d she’d likely have most of her play time. By the time I had everything situated, the food arrived.
“Evening, Miss. Where would you like it set up?”
“Out on the balcony, please.” Which was where we found my princess, curled up in a deck chair napping.
“Princess, dinner’s here.” Hopefully she’d make it through the meal, then a quick bath, and it was off to bed for her. Poor thing.
“’Kay, Mommy.”
She stretched and wiped her eyes, then sluggishly walked to the table. I signed the bill and added a handsome tip for the waiter. “Mommy kept it simple for her tired princess.”
“Yummy, nuggies and fries. Thank you, Mommy.”
It was the right decision to declare tomorrow a lazy day. Rest and relaxation was what Dr. Mommy ordered for her princess.
“Alright, sweet girl, thank you for at least eating your nuggets.” Half her fries remained, but with the continual yawns and half lidded eyes, I wasn’t pushing it. “Let’s get you in the tub then tucked into bed.”
“’Kay, Mommy.”
That said it all. My girl was a tubby time loon and generally stripped as she ran through the room giggling.
Not tonight though. “Hold onto my shoulders, sweetheart while I get you undressed.” The tub filled beside us.
I’d added bubbles, but even that didn’t wake her.
“Okay, let’s get you washed. We’ll do your hair tomorrow night. ”
“’Mkay.”
It was the quickest bath in history, but given standing on her own wasn’t completely possible, I had her washed and in her jammies in record time. “Alright, my love, lets tuck you in.”
She crawled under the bedding, and I tucked her stuffies in beside her. “Kisses, Mommy.” I gave my sleepy girl kisses and as soon as her head touched the pillow she was out.
Unable to resist, I ran my finger through her hair and thanked whoever was listening for bringing my girl to me.
I feared for what may’ve happened to her mental well-being had I put this off any longer.
She was home now, more or less, but either way she was with me where I was able to keep her safe and happy.
Once the dishes were removed, I locked up, showered, and joined my baby girl. After I lay down and wrapped her tightly in my arms, I sighed. Completely content. Until this very moment it hadn’t hit me just how mentally exhausted I too had been.
The most amazing sound woke me the next morning—my sweet girl giggling as she twirled my hair around her fingers.
“Mommy’s gonna have ringlets if you keep doing that, sweetheart.” Naturally curly hair was both a blessing and a curse at times. “How do you feel?”
“Happier than I’ve been in a long time,” she pressed her lips to mine in the briefest of kisses. “You know what the best part is?”
“What?” I drew her close, desiring more of those sweet kisses.
“I don’t remember much once we got back here but I know there was nothing to worry about because mommy was taking care of me.”
“That may be the sweetest words anyone has ever said to me. Next to I love you, Mommy, that is.”
More wiggly giggles. “Mommy, I’m hungry.”
“Okay, those are good words too. Mommy could use a strong cup of coffee. Let me take care of my bladder and put on a robe, then I’ll order breakfast.” Another quick kiss and she was off once again, like the energetic girl I’d fallen madly in love with .
“There’s a robe in the closet for you as well, if you don’t feel like getting dressed just yet.
” We’d likely go from pj’s to swimsuits, but I wanted the morning to relax before we stepped foot outside.
“Can we eat on the balcony again?”
“Absolutely.” As though I’d even think to tell that smiling face no. The dark circles under her eyes had faded a bit after a good night’s sleep. When I glanced at the clock, I saw why. We slept until ten. When was the last time I’d slept that late?
Refreshed. Rejuvenated. Renewed.
Perfect time for a vacation with my girl.
“Breakfast will be here shortly, Princess.”
She skipped around the corner and right into me. “Did you get me pancakes?”
“I did,” I bopped her nose. “They let me order off the children’s menu.”
“Yay!” Darcy threw her arms around my waist and hugged me tightly. “I have the bestest Mommy.”
“Only because I have the bestest girl. Hey, did you check in with Vale yet?” Jack knew I was on a rescue mission, which had worried Vale.
She looked around the room. “Where’s my phone?”
“Mommy put it on the charger on the nightstand. Will you bring mommy hers too please?”
“Yup.”
I sat on the couch, and a few minutes later my girl planted her sweet tush upon my lap. “Here you go, Mommy.”
“Thank you, ma’am.”
Darcy furiously typed away and hadn’t so much as hit send when her phone rang. She rolled her eyes and put it on the speakerphone. “That was fast.”
“Don’t you ever worry me or your mommy like that again,” Vale scolded her. I could see his pouty face clear as day even though it wasn’t a video chat.
“Hey, you did the job too, so you know what it’s like.”
“Yes and you remember how miserable my hyper butt was, especially after Daddy left. If my go-go-go self can’t handle it, then how could you expect to?”
“He-he,” Darcy giggled. “Go-go Gadget Vale!” they both chuckled. “I did it for two years, but with no life it just was, ya know?”
“I do,” Vale sighed, “but once we found our forevers our hearts were no longer in it.”
“How did you get so smart?” She teased him.
“He has a smart mother,” Sarah hollered in the background, making us all laugh. “Little girl, you listen to your Mommy or we’re gonna have words.”
Properly chagrined, Darcy apologized. “Sorry, Sarah.”
“Dang right you are.”
Picturing that feisty little woman shaking her finger at Darcy had me barely suppressing laughter. Thankfully, I was saved by the door. I scootched the cute booty onto the couch and let the room service attendant in. “Could you please set it up on the balcony?”
“Yes, ma’am.”
While they did their thing, Darcy had switched to facetime with Vale and was currently walking him around the suite. She was beyond adorable, even the wait staff smiled at her.
“Enjoy your day, ma’am.”
“Thank you.” I met her out on the balcony where she was currently showing Vale the grand view we had.
“Mommy’s taking me to the beach today. I can’t wait to lay out and work on my tan and finally relax.”
“Me too, sweet girl.” I pulled the stainless lid off her plate. She squealed and flipped the phone around.
“Look, Vale. Mommy got me smiley face pancakes.”
“Lucky.”
“Alright monkey, we need to say goodbye. It’s time for your playtime before I catch you rearranging furniture again.” Vale rolled his eyes at Jack. “Naughty monkey, rolling his eyes at his daddy. If I didn’t know better I’d think you want a spanking.” Vale’s face said as much.
“Time for me to head back to my cat condo.” Sarah couldn’t get out of there fast enough. I’m sure she’d walked in on more than a mother ever should where her child was involved.
“Cat condo?” I asked.
This time, Jack rolled his eyes. “Sarah decided she wanted a pet, so we took her to the shelter thinking she’d come home with a dog and instead fell in love with two cats. The cat condo she ordered for them takes up half the living room. But she’s happy and that’s all that matters.”
“The kitties are so cute, Daddy,” Vale interjected. “Darcy you have to come meet them. Momma named them Mickey and Minnie.” Darcy giggled. “They’re black and white, just like the famous mice. Mouses? Meeses?”
