Chapter Four

Vivienne

I could hear it in Darcy’s voice. She’d been at sea for three weeks now and was on the verge of a full-blown melt down. One that would likely rival her Seatac incident.

“Mommy, are you still doing dommey stuff with other people?” The huff in her tone must be addressed though I knew she wasn’t in the right frame of mind for a stern response.

“Yes, I am, Princess. We should’ve had this conversation already and I apologize for not addressing it with you.

” Her eyes welled with tears that came through the video screen clear as day.

“But if it helps ease your worries I will let you know that while you shouldn’t question your mommy, none of the scenes has resulted with my hands touching any personal areas nor does anyone but my Princess touch mommy’s special areas.

” She sighed, and I knew I’d hit the issue head on.

“Also, I’ve begun moving some of my subs over to other Dom’s.

” I didn’t dare go into detail when I’d barely managed to stop her impending tantrum.

“Thank you, Mommy. That means a lot to me.”

“Anything for you, Princess. Now, let’s get to that story.

” After that, I’d be making a call to my dear old friend Armando Solis.

Darcy didn’t know he and I were acquaintances.

Strict confidentiality and NDA’s I took very seriously didn’t allow for that.

But I’d like to bend his ear about Darcy’s behavior and maybe get another set of eyes on my girl.

I didn’t wish to control all aspects of her life, but I’d ask her to consider finding a new local job, or if I had my way, no job at all when she came home from this three-month trip.

And if she decided to hand over all control to me, I was one hundred percent on board with that. No pun intended. Outing my relationship with Darcy to him I could do. From there it was up to him what he wished to share of his own.

Quiet on the other end had me glancing at the phone screen. As she had every night since she left, Darcy soundly slept before I’d finished the book.

“Night, sweet girl. Mommy loves you.”

Sleepily, she murmured. “Love you, Mommy.”

A quick glance at the clock warned me it was too late to ring Armando. Instead, I sent a text asking him to reach out tomorrow but before I sat the phone down it rang.

“Armando, I’m so sorry if my message woke you.”

“Not at all, dear friend. I just got my boy down and was headed to the shower. Is everything alright?”

Well, hopefully this didn’t backfire and further upset Darcy. “I’m not sure you’re aware, but I’m in a serious relationship with one of your employees.”

A familiar, jovial lilt filled his words. “Oh, do tell.”

“Armando, I’ve missed your charm, truly. She’s an employee of yours and to be honest, as much as I wish this was a social call, it’s one of concern.”

“I’ve not been made aware of any issues with my staff. What happened?”

“Sorry to have alarmed you, but it’s nothing of injury.

I fear my little princess is on the verge of a breakdown and missing her mommy.

I hope I’m not crossing a line by reaching out to you but when she was last ashore she had an episode that stems from fear of abandonment and I’m seeing it in her eyes again. ”

“Separation anxiety. I understand, my boy Jalen suffers from the same. What is your littles name? Maybe I can bring her to my quarters for a play break with Jalen.”

“Darcy Hanley. She’s a lead cabin steward.”

“And a very good one. Darcy’s been with me for two years now. I had no idea she was a little. Jalen will be delighted.”

The normally calm, cool, demeaner I was known for shattered when a sigh of relief loudly escaped. “Armando, that would mean the world to me.”

“Think nothing of it, Vivienne. After all, Blush brought my boy to me, and I’ll forever be in your debt for that.

He’s my world.” Armando got that familiar, far away, head over heels in love sound in his voice.

One my own reflection revealed each time I saw myself in the mirror since Darcy entered my life.

“When this series of sails, is that the right word? Well, when the three months are over I expect you and Jalen to visit us. My Princess will be coming home to a playroom of her own and we’d love to have you over, but keep that between us please, it’s a surprise.”

Armando winked. “I can promise that we’ll take you up on that, but for now, I must bid you goodnight. Afterall, I have a playdate to arrange tomorrow.”

“Thank you again, Armando. Goodnight.”

Out of habit, I double checked the doors even though I knew security had them locked and armed. The contractors started the renovations on the loft a couple of days ago and while there were signs of construction taking place , they managed to keep their supplies tidy.

As I lay in bed thinking of my girl, the contrast between her fair skin and blonde hair to my dark eyes and nearly black hair couldn’t have been more opposite than were we, yet we fit.

I swear, the moment she placed her hand in mine the night we met my heart leaped.

Love at first site? Possibly, though I had never been one to believe in that.

Did I now?

I sure as hell was beginning to.

“Hello?” Groggily, I answered the phone. My eyes were not focused enough to see who the caller was until a facetime request popped up. “Good morning, Princess.”

“Mommy, mommy, mommy, guess what?” Her exuberant smile filled the screen.

“I got invited to the captain’s cabin to play with his boy.

” She paused and got her thinky face on.

“I wonder who told him I was a little? Probably McKenna. I think she’s a mommy and doesn’t know it.

She does that eyebrow thing like you do.

” Back and forth from right to left she tried her best to cock a brow and failed hilariously miserably.

Tired or not, the laughter at her silly antics had fully woken me.

“We’ll have to work on that, my love.”

She got a dreamy look on her pretty face. “I like that.”

“Like what?”

“Being your love. Being your everything really.”

“That you are, sweet girl. What time is your play date?” The dark circles under her beautiful blues said she wasn’t getting enough sleep. But with as excited as she was, I wasn’t about to burst that happy bubble, though I felt better about last night’s call to Armando.

“Captain Solis said to come to his cabin at noon, and he’d have lunch there for us too. Should I bring my princess doll or my stuffies?”

“I say bring whatever you want to share and feel comfortable carrying around the ship.” I said, unsure if she was out about being a little to more than Armando and McKenna.

“Good call. I’ll put play clothes in my backpack and one of my stuffies, um,” she chewed on her finger as she glanced from Loxi to her princess bear. “Which one would you pick, Mommy?”

“Finger out of your mouth, silly girl. Which stuffie has had more attention?” Sounded wise to me but given I was operating on an uncaffeinated brain, who was I to say.

“Well, I’ve had Loxi the longest but they’ve both been in the cabin the same amount of time. I’m a bad stuffie owner, Mommy.”

“How so?”

“I work too much, and they get ignored.” Darcy got sad again. “Maybe someday.” She appeared to be having a silent conversation with them I wasn’t privy to.

“Then I say take them both so they can meet him. Do you know what his boy’s name is?” Good save, Viv. Nearly blurted his name out.

“Uh-huh, it’s Jalen.”

“What a wonderfully unique name. I bet Jalen would enjoy meeting them both.”

She shoved them both in her backpack, then glanced at her watch. “Shoot, I have to go. Love you, Mommy.”

“Love you too, Princess. I can’t wait to hear all about your playdate tonight.” Darcy blew me kisses then hung up and suddenly the emptiness hit me.

Shower done, I dug a tunnel through the sea of boxes straight to my beloved coffee maker.

Can’t get angry with the contractor for the piles when they were ninety percent mine.

Had I gone a tad overboard with Darcy’s playroom?

Absolutely, but I’d also added warmer, homier touches throughout what was our new home.

When it was just me it didn’t matter much.

The loft only served as a place to lay my head after far too many hours of work.

Now I have movie nights to look forward to, watching my beautiful girl play, and an abundance of her colored pictures adorned the refrigerator.

Playdates with friends, having sleepovers with Jack and Vale.

This once strict domme was completely changed.

With so much more to look forward to my future was no longer dim but full of light and life.

Which reminds me…

Me: Hey Jack, can you ask Vale when Darcy’s birthday is please?

My first Mommy failure. Should’ve been something I asked at the start, but Darcy and I were swept away in a whirlwind romance and the details got side tracked.

Jack: September twenty-first and Sarah says she better damn well be included in all festivities or she’ll tan your hide .

He followed up with a bunch of laughing emojis.

Me: I wouldn’t think of forgetting her. She’s the life of the party and Darcy’s true parent.

Jack: Good save. I adore that woman.

Me: You’re not alone. She’s something else.

Jack: How’s Darcy doing at sea?

Me: Keep this between us, but not well. I reached out to Armando Solis, who happens to be her captain. He whisked her away to his cabin today to play with his boy. I have a feeling this will be her last cruise.

Jack: Wow, that’s a name I haven’t heard in years. Poor thing. Vale didn’t do well without me either, but I know you’ll do right by Darcy.

Me: That goes without saying. Speaking of which, the contractors are here and that’s my queue to head down to the office.

Jack: Can’t wait to see it all done.

Me: We’ll have you and Vale over as soon as my baby girl is home.

Jack and I have seen more of each other since Darcy and I met than we had in the last decade. Sad, when you think about it, especially since we considered each other to be family and he was a silent partner in Blush as well.

The entirety of my life was changing for the better.

For the better part of two decades, I’d trained and honed my skills as a Domme, believing in doing so my life had been set, and I was satisfied with what I’d achieved.

None of that held a candle to how great it felt to be Darcy’s Mommy.

Never having envisioned that role for myself, it shocked the hell out of me that I’d so easily slid into it.

I’ll spend the rest of my life striving to be the best Mommy for Darcy. There will be ups and downs but together we’ll weather them and learn and grow from our mistakes. I, for one, looked forward to every moment of our lives together and I hoped my sweet girl did too.

“Good morning, Abby,” I greeted my longtime assistant. Abby not only worked for me, but she and her husband were in the BDSM lifestyle as well. “Anything going on?”

“Morning, Viv. Dressler accepted your meeting for this afternoon.”

“Great, thank you. Would you mind sitting in and taking notes?”

She raised her brow, and I immediately pictured Darcy and her challenge with it this morning.

“Sorry, not laughing at you. That just reminded me of something silly Darcy did. I’m hoping to cut my hours back.

I’ve already moved some of my clients to other Dom’s and I have a proposition that we’ll need the lawyer to draw up contracts for if Dressler accepts. ”

That had her eyes widening. “Are you okay? Are you sick?”

I laughed. “I’m perfectly healthy but I’d like more time with my girl so I’m sliding into a more of an administrative management role which still requires the perfect assistant.” She visibly relaxed, having feared her job would fade away. “As long as I’m here, you have a job, Abby.”

“Thank you. My heart stopped for a second there. You know you’re more than a boss to me, Viv, you’re family. Hell, you brought Shane and I together and helped us grow as a couple.” Abby hugged me.

Family. For someone who once considered they had none, suddenly my life overflowed with the love and support of one.

“Thanks, Abby. That means more than you know. I don’t foresee your duties changing but hopefully we can get you home to your family at a decent time.

” She laughed but I owed that woman a lot.

Far too many nights she spent here with me while Shane took care of their kids.

Reflection didn’t always show us our best sides, but it allowed us the ability to turn our lives around.

In the end, the meeting with Dressler went well and Abby and I were able to call it a night after a normal eight-hour shift.

I can’t remember the last time we did that, but the excitement of talking to Darcy and seeing what the contractors had accomplished today had me sprinting up the stairs to the loft.

“Mommy!” she squealed into the phone screen. I’d just stepped inside and had to be careful with the screen and not giveaway what was going on.

“Hello Princess. How was your playdate.”

“It was so much fun. Jalen has a playroom on the ship. Who does that?”

“Evidently el Capitan does.”

“Jalen has Barbies too. It was so much fun.” She came down from her euphoric high far too fast.

“Princess, what’s wrong?”

“Uh, it was such a great day until my mom messaged me. She really has a way of bringing me down.”

“What did she want?” As though I didn’t already know that answer to that.

“Money for rent.”

“Didn’t you tell her you moved out?”

“Not really,” she shied away from the phone.

“Princess, look at me. Quit chewing on your lip. Why haven’t you told her?”

“Honestly, I hadn’t heard from her in a month, so I figured I’d just never come back, and she’d never know.

I just don’t get what she does with her money.

If she really is working two jobs, and she’s only feeding herself, it makes no sense.

I bought my car. I pay for my own car insurance, and I feed myself.

I haven’t been in that apartment in five months so I used no utilities. ”

“All the more reason to tell her you moved out and the bank is closed.” Was I pushing too much? Where was the line drawn?

“You’re right. I’ll message her now and tell her I won’t be back. If she can’t afford that place then it’s time to downsize.”

“That’s my girl. I’m so proud of you.”

Hopefully, she’ll stand tall. Otherwise, her incubator and I were having words, and that mother would not come out the winner.
