I needed her.
Now.
I glanced in the direction Brody had gone. If I wanted to go to her, I needed to go now because Brody would try to stop me. He wouldn’t understand.
I could do this. Grab a taxi. Go to Lumen’s.
I’d answer her question in person.
Twenty minutes later, there I was.
“Alec?”
Lumen sounded surprised to see me, which I found endearing. I took a step toward her. “You texted me.”
The puzzled expression on her face didn’t change.
“Fuck it.” I’d always been better with action than words.
I reached for her, my mouth coming down on hers even as my hands cupped her face. Damn it all to hell. She was too sweet. Too soft. I had been without her for too long–

“A kiss.” I grinned at her. “I’ll show you again.”
I made to move forward again, but this time, she put her hand out, stopping me. I frowned.
“You’re drunk.”

“Somehow, I doubt that. You smell like you swam in it.”
I raised my arm and sniffed. “Aye, I suppose I had more’n a wee bit.”
“And you decided to show up here, uninvited and drunk, because…?”
“Message!” I said triumphantly.
Her face lit up with hope. “Evanne’s home?”
I scowled. “No.”
“So, you came to answer my text in person?”
“I came to see you, lass,” I said. “Need to get my mind off the whole bloody business and nothin’ does that as well as a good fuck. An’ you’re a great fuck.”
She crossed her arms. “You’re an ass.”
“But I have a sexy arse.” I winked at her…and then promptly threw up on the rug.

“You’ve gotto be kidding me.”
When he’d kissed me, a thousand things had gone through my head at the same time, not the least of which was how good it felt, how right. But following quick on that thought had been the taste of alcohol, and it had been that more than anything else that had cleared my head.
