Chapter thirty-three
Halle
N o one replies at first, and my heart pounds.
“Hello? Is anyone there?” I ask again.
Soon, I hear a soft whimper on the other end of the phone, and a cold hand wraps around my heart as I finally recognize the voice.
In my memory, I see her face—big hazel eyes, long black hair, and a wide smile.
It's been months since I last saw her. We lost touch after I ran away from my old pack, but now that I’m finally settled, it’s time we got reacquainted.
There’s so much we have to catch up on.
I’ve missed her big smile.
But I can tell that she’s not smiling now on the other end of the phone as I clear my throat. “Zara?”
The Omega finally gathers her composure, and then her sweet, serene voice bleeds through my ears, “Halle…I’m in trouble…”
I keep my voice calm as I reply, “What kind of trouble, Zara?”
The Omega takes several calming breaths, then says. “He’s back, Halle. The Big Bad Wolf.”
The name makes me freeze, and ice seeps through my veins as I try to ground myself. He was an accomplice of my old pack, and nothing but trouble.
One of the vilest Alphas I have ever met.
Zara panics. “I…I have to go, Halle…he’s coming…”
My blood rushes through my head. “Zara…”
“I’m sorry, Halle. I shouldn’t have concerned you. Congrats on your happy ever after. I’m happy for you. Truly.”
Wait, how does she know about my happy ever after?
“Zara! Don’t hang up.”
My friend hangs up, and now the other end of the phone falls radio silent.
The guys hover around me. Dane places his hand on my back. “Petal, is everything all right? Who was that?”
But I’m looking at Aiden when I say, “My friend, Zara…she’s in trouble.”
Aiden crosses his arms. “Well, is there anything we can do?”
I shut my eyes. “Yes. Call the police. Because a really bad Alpha has got his hands on her. The Big Bad Wolf.”
It's like a ripple effect goes through the pack as each of my Alphas stirs at the name, and it looks like they’ve heard of him, too.
I’m not surprised. That Alpha almost makes Pack Grim look like a group of saints.
I make a silent vow to Zara then, and I hope she senses me, wherever she is.
"Don’t worry, Zara. I am coming to save you."
