I t was the last day of March, and Bryce had no idea how so much had happened to her over the course of one month, but it really had. She had managed to get on her plane and not cry. She’d been sad, of course, and she’d already missed Sophie, even though it had only been a few hours since she’d seen her.

Leaving the airport building, she wished she had driven herself there because she’d asked Megan to pick her up, but instead of Megan, Sean’s car had pulled over at the curb.

“Hey,” Sean said as the passenger window rolled down. “Megs asked me to get you.”

“Is everything okay?”

“Yeah, I think she’s with Kels and couldn’t tear herself away.” Sean smiled. “Trunk’s open.”

Bryce loaded her bags into the trunk and joined Sean in the car. As they drove off, neither said anything at first, and she stared out the window, trying not to text Sophie while in Sean’s car. She had messaged her already that she’d landed, but Sophie had sent her three messages since then, and as much as Bryce wanted to check them, she didn’t want Sean to see and end up hurting her.

“I’m okay,” Sean spoke after a while. “If that’s why you are not talking.”

“I’m just tired, honestly,” she said.

“I bet. All that sex probably, huh?”

Bryce turned to her and asked, “Do you actually want to know?”

Sean stopped the car when they arrived at a light and said, “The specifics? No. But I wouldn’t mind knowing that you were okay.”

“I’m good,” she said. “We’re good, Sophie and me.”

“Good,” Sean replied. “And she’s going to visit?”

“Soon.” Bryce nodded.

“And you’re doing long-distance?”

“Yes.”

“Will she move?”

“No,” she said. “I will.”

Sean had finally turned to her then.

“You will?”

“When we’re ready, yes,” she replied. “I love her, Sean. It’s her for me.”

“And you have to be the one to move?”

“I don’t have to, no. Soph would consider moving here. Things might change, but I like New Orleans. It opens up a whole lot of opportunities for me for my blog and maybe some other things, too. Sophie’s family lives there, and her grandma isn’t doing so well, so I don’t want to ask her to move away from her.”

“Makes sense,” Sean said when the light had changed. “So, what… Like, six months?”

“Huh?”

“When will you move?”

“Not in six months.” Bryce chuckled. “We haven’t talked about a timeline, but I owe my aunt work on the house, and I’d need to make sure she has a new paying tenant or buyer. I think we’ll do back and forth for a while, but maybe in a year. Maybe nine months. I don’t know.”

Sean nodded and asked, “Will you visit?”

“Of course, I’ll visit, Sean. My people are here. I wouldn’t just move away and never come back.”

“Okay,” Sean said softly. “I’m working on it, you know? Moving on.”

“I know,” Bryce replied.

“I think I can meet her for real this time when she visits.”

“It would be soon, Sean.”

“I know. It’s okay. I’ll behave.” The woman chuckled.

Later, Bryce was staring at Sean from her position on the sofa, watching her friend laugh and really hoping things would be okay between them when Sophie visited.

“Bry?” Megan said.

“Yeah?”

“It happened.”

“What happened?” Bryce asked.

Megan was sitting next to her on the sofa while Kelsey was talking to Sean about something in the kitchen.

“Kels and me.”

“I know.”

“No, I mean it happened.”

“It?” She squinted at Megan. “You mean, it it?”

Megan nodded with a smile and said, “Yes.”

“Really? What happened to waiting?”

“We didn’t,” Megan replied. “I checked. I asked. Trust me, I made sure. She said she wanted to, and we did.”

“And how was it?” Bryce asked, keeping an eye on Kelsey, who was still in the kitchen.

“Great,” Megan said sweetly. “She bumbled a little and, well, asked for some direction , and it was cute.”

“Yeah?”

Megan nodded with a smile and said, “Then, it got hot and sexy, and it was perfect, Bryce.” Her smile widened. “It’s happened a few times since then already.”

“What? When did it happen the first time?”

“The night of our first date.”

“You’re joking, right? I talked to Kels after she left your place.”

“Yeah, so did I.” Megan turned to look at Kelsey. “I asked her to come back, and she did. We talked, and I told her I wanted her to stay over, but I thought it would just be sleep.” She turned back to Bryce. “It wasn’t, and I’m really happy, Bry. She’s who I’ve always wanted, you know?”

“I know.”

“It’s like this miracle, to get to be with her this way. I never thought I’d get to have that. She’s in your kitchen, talking to Sean, but soon, we’re going to go back to her place, and–”

“Wrap your thighs around her body?”

The instant Megan’s soft laughter filled the room, Kelsey turned away from Sean and toward her. Bryce watched Kelsey smile at the woman and then look over at her. Kelsey gave her a nod, which told Bryce that she was just as happy.

“We’re dating, but we’re together, too. We’ve already said that that’s what we want,” Megan revealed. “I’ve never wanted anyone but her.”

“And now, she wants you . I think that’s pretty amazing, Megs. I’m really happy for you both.”

Kelsey walked over then and sat on Megan’s other side.

“She told you, didn’t she?”

“She did,” Bryce confirmed.

“Told them what?” Sean asked, following Kelsey in.

“That we’ve… taken our relationship to the next level.”

“That you’re dating?”

“No, we’re together,” Kelsey said. “And we’ve… Well, we’ve had sex. Like, a lot of sex. Like, everywhere in my place and everywhere in Megan’s place. Just sex everywhere, and it’s so fucking good.”

“Kelsey!” Megan laughed and leaned into her.

“Why didn’t any of you tell me that sex with a woman is insanely good?” Kelsey asked.

“We did!” Sean and Bryce said at the same time.

“Like, a million times,” Sean added with a laugh. “And it’s probably sex with Megs that’s insanely good because you two are great together.” Sean looked up at Bryce. “It’s not always like that, and that’s okay. Sometimes, people are meant to do that with other people.”

“Well, I like doing it with Megan.”

“Oh, my God.” Megan laughed, burying her now bright red face into Kelsey’s neck.

Bryce laughed, too, and when her friends went home for the night, she sat on her sofa, missing them but also really missing someone else.

“Hey,” Sophie said.

“Hi, beautiful,” Bryce replied.

“It’s early. I thought you’d be with your friends tonight.”

“They just left. I think Sean was tired from work, and I know Kelsey and Megs are going to go have sex, so they have their priorities.”

“They’re having sex?” Sophie asked.

“Apparently, they’re having sex all over their houses, and it’s amazing.”

Sophie laughed that laugh that made Bryce want her to be sitting right beside her.

“Really? That’s great.”

“They’re together now, and they both seem really happy about that.”

“ I’m really happy we’re together.”

“Me too,” Bryce said with a smile. “Want to video chat while I type up another blog?”

“Yeah, let’s do it.”

Bryce moved to her bedroom and pulled out her computer. She set her phone up against her pillow next to her, and a moment later, she was staring at Sophie on the small screen.

“Hi, babe,” Sophie said with a smile.

“You’re so pretty,” Bryce said, tilting her head to take Sophie in.

Sophie giggled and said, “I miss you.”

“I miss you, too.”

“Two more days,” Sophie told her.

“The proposal is tomorrow?”

“Yes. And I’m packing after dinner. I’ll be on a plane the next morning, and I get to see you.” Her smile widened.

“God, I can’t wait. I get a whole week with you before you start your new job. I’m thinking we should really do what Kelsey and Megan recommend.”

“What’s that?”

“Sex all over the house,” Bryce replied.

Sophie laughed and asked, “How did the meeting with the producer go?”

“Oh. She’s crazy.”

“What? Why?”

“She asked me to write the script.”

“For the movie?”

“Yeah. She said I could take a stab at it, at least. She’s got an actual screenwriter who could work with me, but she said who better to write it than me: I lived my part of it, and I have intimate knowledge of your part of it.”

“Okay. I’m missing the crazy part, Bry.”

“I’m not a screenwriter.”

“You’re a writer, Bryce. She seems to think you can do it.”

“I write blogs, babe.”

“But it’s our story. She’s right. Who better to tell it?”

“She wants an answer by Monday.”

“Okay. Well, why don’t you try writing it before then and see how it goes? If you hate it or you think it’s still a bad idea, you tell her to find another writer.”

“I have to buy this software. I don’t have screenwriting software. I don’t know how to use it.”

“Bryce, you are a very smart woman. I am certain that you can figure this out.”

“I don’t want to get it wrong, Soph.”

Sophie looked more serious now and said, “I get it.”

“It’s our story. It’s you and me, and it’s important.”

“It is,” Sophie replied. “But you can tell it how no one else can. You can describe the grapefruit of my shampoo in a way no one else is going to be able to.”

“It’s a movie, not a book.” Bryce chuckled.

“So? You give the Bryce character a way to say it out loud. You did write a blog about it. Have her narrate it or something.”

“You’d be much better at this than me,” she said with a self-deprecating laugh.

“Babe, you can do this. I’ll help if you need it, but you can tell our story, and they can put it on the screen for others to see.” Sophie smiled at her.

Bryce closed her computer, pushed it off her lap, and rolled to face Sophie on the phone screen.

“I don’t want to write a blog anymore.”

“No?”

“No. I’ll do that later. I just want to talk to you.”

“About the movie people are weirdly making about us?”

Bryce laughed and said, “About literally anything. I’d talk to you about anything.”

“Okay. Well, Sean was there tonight, right?”

“Yeah.”

“How are things with her since the airport ride home?”

“Good. I think she’s good. She said she still wants to meet you.”

“Did she promise again that she’d behave?”

“She did,” Bryce replied.

“And do you want me to meet her? For real this time?”

“Yes. I know it’s awkward because she’s my ex and my first in a lot of ways.”

“Am I your last in a lot of ways?” Sophie asked.

Bryce sobered and replied, “Yes. You’re the love of my life, Soph. I love you.”

“I love you, too,” Sophie said. “I can’t wait to hang out with your friends.” She smiled.

“I can’t wait to have you at my house.” Bryce wiggled her eyebrows. “In my bed.”

“Oh, yeah? Should I bring anything with me?”

“I have things here. But if there’s something in particular that you want, I’d suggest packing it, yes.”

“I’ll keep that in mind,” Sophie replied with a smile.

“Babe?”

“Yeah?”

“Do you want to right now?”

“Do I want to what ?” Sophie asked, toying with her.

“Come on. Give me something here. We haven’t done this yet,” Bryce said.

“Done what, Bry?”

“Video sex. I’m asking you to let me watch you touch yourself while I touch myself and we come together. I want to see you.”

“But I’ll be there the day after tomorrow,” Sophie said as she shifted the phone.

“I know. Trust me, I plan on taking full advantage of that. But you’re not here now.”

“I’m going into my room,” Sophie said. “What do you want me to do?”

“God, anything. Just do anything. I’ll come from watching you,” she said as she shifted herself into a better position.

“You know I’ve never really done this before, right?”

“I know. Neither have I. We’ll figure it out together. I just need to see you, Soph. I want to hear you.”

“Why aren’t you getting naked then?” Sophie asked.

“You want–”

Bryce didn’t waste any time. She stood up, pulled off her shirt, her jeans, her underwear, and bra, and within seconds, she was back on the bed.

Sophie laughed, but then the phone was set somewhere that allowed Bryce to see Sophie’s entire body. She watched as Sophie slowly removed her shirt and swallowed hard when her bra hit the floor. When Sophie slid her jeans down to the floor next, Bryce moved her hand between her legs, and when the underwear disappeared, too, Bryce about came just from seeing her girlfriend naked.

“Will you stand just like that for a minute and let me watch you?” she asked.

“Yes,” Sophie said. “What are you doing right now?”

“Rubbing my clit.”

“Fuck,” Sophie whispered.

“Will you do that, too?” Bryce asked.

“Yes,” Sophie said, and her hand slid down between her own legs.

Bryce watched her other hand play with her breast as Sophie started touching herself.

“This is the single hottest thing I’ve ever seen,” she said as she rubbed her clit a little harder.

“Yeah?” Sophie asked.

“Yes,” she said, enjoying the sight of Sophie playing with her nipple. “Fuck, babe. You’re so sexy.”

She then told Sophie how to touch herself, and Sophie complied. Minutes later, Bryce came, right after Sophie, and she watched Sophie flop down onto her bed, dislodging the phone until she picked it up and Bryce was able to see those deep eyes of hers.

“Again?” she asked.

Sophie laughed a deep laugh and replied, “In a minute, yes.” Then, she got serious and asked, “Bryce?”

“Yeah?”

“We can do this, right? The long-distance? The visits? The space in between? That’s the hard part. We can do this, right? The hard part.”

Bryce nodded and replied, “There is no one on earth I want to do the hard part with other than you, Soph. Yes, we can do this.”

Sophie nodded, too, and said, “Okay. Then, let me see you this time.”
