The room is tense and silent. Logan’s staring at me after making his demand. It both enrages me and turns me on, and I can’t for the life of me figure out why. So I look Logan in the eye and say, “Make. Me.”

He moves so fast that I can barely track it. Suddenly, I’m slammed against the headboard again. It hurts, but it also makes me feel alive.

“I’m trying to make you,” Logan hisses. “Trying to make you safe . Make you happy . Make you seen .” He leans in, those blue eyes so fucking tortured it kills me. “But here’s the thing. You have to let me.”

My first instinct is to tell him to fuck off. To fight off the stifling hold he has on me. But then, I realize how fucking tired I am. And how fucking good that sounds.

For the first time in a long time, I think I actually want to let someone be there for me. I think I want to let this broken, bossy, beautiful man bulldoze through my bullshit and make me feel. Make me live.

But I’m scared.

Logan’s watching me closely. His hand around my neck is no longer tight. He’s just…holding me. His thumb strokes up and down my neck. His voice comes out soft…broken, “Please, Ronan.”

I’m scared. I’m so fucking scared. But at some point, I either have to die or decide to live. Before, living was always alone. But maybe, just maybe , right now, I have someone else? That has to be worth something, right?

I stare into Logan’s eyes for long enough to see every emotion flash through them. I’m feeling all of them too—fear, anxiety, depression, rage…and also, a new one. A new one that floats around like a tiny, flaming ember: hope.

Finally, in a quiet voice, I whisper, “Okay. Make me.”
